NPD: AnalogMan TS9 Silver Mod

So today I drove to Connecticut to pick up a stock Ibanez TS-9 (with some Sam Ash cards I had laying around for months). Then, I drove 30 minutes more to the AnalogMan shop and dropped it off for mods. After much deliberation and research this winter break, I decided to go with the silver mod (in addition to their normal 808/Brown mod) with true bypass and an extra-bright yellow LED. I used to have a Keeley TS9 Mod Plus and I got rid of it a few years ago for some different and slightly higher-gain pedals (BB Preamp and Keeley Fuzz Head). Now I'm using a RAT clone as my main distortion (this pedal seriously KICKS PANTS and I'm really happy with it) and missed having a colored boost-sounding pedal on there with it. I'm really looking forward to this AM Silver Mod. I think it'll really do the trick and really pair well with the RAT clone.

Plus, I still have my RC Booster/BB Preamp combo if I want to go with a more transparent/uncolored sorta sound. The AM Silver Mod should come in late next week and I can't wait. :approve:

Re: NPD: AnalogMan TS9 Silver Mod

let me know how you like it I've been thinking about doing the silver mod to my SD1 and having AM mod my BD2

Re: NPD: AnalogMan TS9 Silver Mod

I had an AM SD-1 Silver and ran it into a Keely BD-2 Phat ... it was a great combo!

Re: NPD: AnalogMan TS9 Silver Mod

I have an AM mod TS-9/808 and it's the only non vintage TS I've ever really liked...tried the Silver and it's cool but to me a TS needs the mid hump, and the Silver still has it but it is thinned out a bit but either way it's a great pedal!

Man, in high school, I used to run an old PRS McCarty into a Keeley BD-2 Phat Mod (neither of them mine) and I got some awesome tones! I miss that pedal. I never tried an SD-1 modded or stock....:27:

Thanks! And yeah man, I decided to go with AnalogMan when I read that your AM TS9 converted you into a TS user from someone that didn't care for Tube Screamers!! (on a thread a few years old). I decided on silver because I figured I'd use it coupled with the RAT more AND with humbuckers more. The transparency and less mids would help me better in those situations, while still retaining that signature TS coloration. Plus the TS has the "gain level/voicing/amount" that I'm looking for.

I also checked out a lot of videos and clips online, comparisons etc. Read the analogman site a million times and other TS sites and forum threads and whatnot. It was cool to check out their shop too. Very nice guys and they seemed INCREDIBLY busy building great pedals. Good luck to those folks!

Re: NPD: AnalogMan TS9 Silver Mod

Mike and crew are good folks, I love those guys!

The TS + Rat is a cool combo, I use it myself a lot for grab and go gigs if I'm borrowing an amp, ya never know if you'll get something great or just terrible but that combo works almost every time for slightly overdriven with the TS to crunchy with the Rat to over the top if you want it with the pair together!

Very cool set up for sure.

I really dig the RAT with the tweed amp. It really enhances the fuzzier qualities of it's naturally distorted tone. Definitely Derek Trucksy in the right settings. Very cool. I'll have to experiment with the pedals together (order too hehe). I'll probably wind up setting the TS9 overdrive knob very low, but we'll soon find out! Thanks for the info/inspiration guys! Much appreciated!

Re: NPD: AnalogMan TS9 Silver Mod

so then let me ask you guys that have used the AM and Keeley BD2 (I used to own a Keeley Phat Mod) what would you suggest out of the two mods for my BD2 pedal.

The idea of having the tubescreamer-esque character on the SD1 from AM is appealing I just wasn't sure which version of the BD2 would be nicer I'm open minded to all options I just don't really have the desire to mod my own pedals at present, just too busy to take on guitar/effects projects.

BTW I did like the Keeley mod enough to do it again I was just exploring other options I always heard great things about AM.

Re: NPD: AnalogMan TS9 Silver Mod

I've never heard anything negative about either BD-2 mod, and the unmodded pedal is not bad either.

In my experience Keeley mods often are very hot rodded and often sound very little like the stock pedal and AnalogMan mods seem to take the sound of the pedal stock and simply refin that sound to be a little more useable for more people,

There is a pop up window here that has a short clip featuring a A TS-9 SD-1 (2 versions), DS-1 and BD-2 to show the differences...maybe that will help?

Re: NPD: AnalogMan TS9 Silver Mod

yeah that seems accurate my Keeley modded BD2 was nothing like the stock BD2 I had when I a/b'd similar but you could notice differences.

I guess I'd probably want the BD2 to be more of a transparent boost with some grit to it and the SD1 to be a little more colored and dirty (ala TS).

Re: NPD: AnalogMan TS9 Silver Mod

So the Analogman TS9 SilverMod (extra bright yellow LED, True Bypass) came in Friday and I haven't gotten a chance to play through it (too loud in the apartment). Got it cookin' with an ensemble today and MAN did it sound incredible! It's pretty much everything I ever wanted in an overdrive pedal. It doesn't thin out my sound, still has some of that mid hump (but not overbearing - sounds great with the humbuckers on my 335). When you wind up the gain knob, it doesn't get too grainy, but it actually THICKENS up quite a bit.

It works amazingly with the RAT clone (see above). The clean boost sound is awesome. Not a plasticy and "neutral" sound like a traditional clean boost, but just sounds bigger and WARM (like a good TS should). The Keeley TS9 Mod + in comparison is much more aggressive-sounding when you wind up the gain. It gets a sorta "hot" sound. The Silvermod to me sounds more natural. I can't wait to try it through my amp back home and with my strat and les paul...

I'm just really happy with this pedal at the moment. The gain knob has a ton of options. Between this and my RAT clone, I have everything from subtle clean boost to over-the-top fat fuzz. It's definitely a very user-friendly setup. I'm glad that I have some new gear that I'm very confident with, and now I won't have to think about it for a long time. Thanks again for all your help, guys!

Re: NPD: AnalogMan TS9 Silver Mod

Once I go home for spring break and have everything from my rig, I definitely will, homie

Re: NPD: AnalogMan TS9 Silver Mod

Cool, I just started modding a couple pedals for some buddies.

Re: NPD: AnalogMan TS9 Silver Mod

ok this sounds like exactly what I'm looking for perhaps I should do the AM silver mod to my sd1 and have keeley do my bd2 (a second time for me, I sold my keeley bd2 before DOH!)
