NPD - Carbon Copy

Not boutique, trick or sexy but I picked up a Carbon Copy at lunch for $79 from GC that is at least cosmetically like new. I will test it out tonight to make sure its functional as well but I would hope someone plugged it in before putting it on the shelf. Assuming it checks out that is one of three pedals I have been waiting for a deal on for months.

Last month I picked up an excellent sounding BOSS CS-3 for $42. It had a well executed mod that the seller didn't know about. Patience is not exactly one of my virtues but it has been paying off so far.....

Re: NPD - Carbon Copy

You're pretty safe with used gear at Guitar Center. I traded in some gear and they thoroughly check out any gear before they buy it.

Re: NPD - Carbon Copy

Now THAT'S the kind of price I'd expect at GC for a Carbon Copy! Congrats!!

Just curious jmh151, but did they give you anything even close to what your gear was worth? My local GC loves to give you sub pawn shop prices for gear.

It's kinda watching that show Pawn Stars...

When I sold my gear, I was trading it all in towards a new rig.. So the manager gave me as much as they could, knowing they'd still have to sell it and make a profit, but they also gave me a larger discount on the gear I was purchasing...

The GC employees all told me I'd make more money selling the fear on eBay... I forgot what they gave me on the individual pedal as I was trading in 10 pedals that were collecting dust

Re: NPD - Carbon Copy

Yeah. Pix, descriptions & packing 10 pedals would be a pain. I'm beginning to get the impression that my nearest GC is just crappier on trade ins.

Again AW, nice score! I do slightly disagree with the not boutique thing. To me the carbon copy sounds nearly as good as any boutique analog pedal. You'll enjoy it for sure. If not, pm me and I'll take it off you hands. :biglaugh:

Sonically, I would likely agree with you. But, lets face it, "MXR" does not generally go hand in hand with "boutique" and that's just fine with me. My pedal board gets less boutique everyday. With few exceptions its BOSS, MXR, BYOC and Fulltone. None of which I consider boutique

Re: NPD - Carbon Copy

Well, both MXR and any boutique builder are still using the same Chinese components. One mfgs and one hand wires. I've always felt the term boutique belongs with labels like "Genuine Corinthian Leather". Just something to jack up the price. LOL

Don't get much more boutique than BYOC. You're building them yourself. I need to get back to that endeavor. Been a while since I built my own effects.

GC is like the GameStop of used music gear - If you are trying to get cash, you're better off going other places BUT if you are trading in towards a purchase (especially a used purchase) there's a lot more leeway and you can get much closer to your second hand value, with a lot less hassle. Keep in mind, in almost every case I've seen, the exception to this analogy is that GC will price used gear to sell in a BIG way. I got my S570 w/ HSC and candy, might as well have been brand new, under $400 there. I recently acquired a Ibanez Gio 7 string for $49. Gio or not, a decent condition 7 string with passive pickups at for $49? If anything, something fun to experiment on.

Didn't mean to derail the great deal TC found, but yeah :)

Re: NPD - Carbon Copy

Congrats on the great deal!! That pedal is one of the few I still want to get! I tried to trade a coupla guits at my local gc and I had to make mental note to take vaseline if I ever want to try that again...

This is the same GC that had a MIM Tele that had a ferocious Dent in it where someone dropped it and they wouldnt budge on the price and said they couldnt deal on it that if no one bought it at the marked price they would send it back to the warehouse for credit..

Re: NPD - Carbon Copy

I had a chance to take it for a short test run last night. Ah yes, I remember why I loved my DM-3 so much. The repeats were not as dark as I was expecting even after hearing some pretty good youtube clips. A very nice surprise indeed. Definitely liking what I am hearing. I expect it will replace the DD-3 on my board. I will leave the digital delays for the DAW. The original idea of the board was to be all analog / sounds I can't get from a plugin anyway so this fits perfectly
