NPD: Donner Yellow Fail Delay

No, that is not a typo. I did not have high hopes for $26 including shipping. I just wanted a good rockabilly slapzback and maybe, just maybe if I was lucky, a delay that sounds good in the effects loop when I'm playing with crunchy gain.
Nope and nope.
Whether I run it on front of the amp or in the loop it cuts low frequencies when engaged and therefore cuts perceived volume. In the loop it actually did cut overall volume. The eq shift was the polar opposite of what I was hoping for.
Don't. Just...don't.

Re: NPD: Donner Yellow Fail Delay

Sorry. Can’t win them all.

I almost got one for Prime Day, they were super discounted. That’s when you got it?

Re: NPD: Donner Yellow Fail Delay

This pedal is sort of popular and gets many positive reviews. Maybe it just doesn't play nice with your particular amp's effects loop(?)

Re: NPD: Donner Yellow Fail Delay

Just an impulse buy off of eBay.
I saw all the positive reviews too. There is a good chance it's a matter of my amp's loop but either way I'm out. Someone wants to trade me for a $16 Klone? I hear they are pretty good. (Kidding. Not kidding. I will probably order that one next. Hope springs eternal and I'll try anything for less than $30. They flip so easily when they let me down.)

Re: NPD: Donner Yellow Fail Delay

A piece of advice I learned with these small budget clone pedals, is that it's best to stick with analog designs, because they are easier and more consistently replicated.
The ones with DSP technology are harder to emulate at that price point.
The Yellow Fall is marketed as being analog, however research shows there is a DSP chip inside the pedal.

Re: NPD: Donner Yellow Fail Delay

lol thanks for the offer but the shipping is almost as much as buying it new :)

I heard the Mosky silver horse was better than the gold btw, in case you get one. I went for the super cheapo.

I gotta admit I was pretty impressed and I’m definitely going to try more. Have you had luck with any others?

Re: NPD: Donner Yellow Fail Delay

I have a MOSKY volume attenuator that is ok, and a KOKKO Space reverb that is great and I use a lot.

I just ordered a Tom'sline Black Teeth Rat Clone and KOKKO amp in a box (JCM 800). Both sound really good in the demos so figured what the hell.

Re: NPD: Donner Yellow Fail Delay

Technology marches on....smaller, cheaper, and every now and again - better.

Re: NPD: Donner Yellow Fail Delay

For a cheap rockabilly slapback, it might be worth trying the Danelectro BLT Slap Echo. To my ears, it’s very, very rockabilly.

I bought a Tomsline mini clean boost that was straight-up awesome. But it was teeeny tiny so I flipped it. I keep thinking about buying a bigger model.
I also had a Joyo US dream that was pretty awesome and the OCD knockoff was not bad at all. One of two others that were pretty good, but this was my first try with a delay.

Re: NPD: Donner Yellow Fail Delay

I'm going to be trying a couple of the cheap TC Electronic pedals shortly, hopefully they'll be good value.

Re: NPD: Donner Yellow Fail Delay

Not sure, but if I were to try one I'd opt for the Joyo JF-33.

I got one in a trade and I think it does the slapback delay fairly decently. If I remember correctly Joyo stopped making them, but you could get a used one for cheap.

Bought one about a month ago. Don't have any of
The problems the OP does. Mine works fine and well
worth the $25.

Re: NPD: Donner Yellow Fall Delay

Been a long while since I have posted however this thread sparked my typing hand. Lest not all forget the ever duplicating company called Behringer..... and this fine fellow I have owned and surprisingly sounds good for the price. $25 bucks all day long and cheaper sometimes. I also have many other delays and they all have their uses but this one can hang on its own.

BEHRINGER VINTAGE DELAY VD400

Re: NPD: Donner Yellow Fail Delay

I have wondered about that one. Thank you for coming out of hibernation to pass that along.

Re: NPD: Donner Yellow Fail Delay

hey while cheap delays are being discussed, anyone noticed the Caline Blue Ocean, about $30, supposedly a clone of some mad prof. pedal.
Anyone tried it or know if it'll do a good slapback without the kind of problems mentioned above?

The behringer comes up often on cheap delay discussions.

Re: NPD: Donner Yellow Fail Delay

Behringers have great sound IME but are considered unreliable. But if you put them in a loop so you don’t step on it, it should appease the concerns of those of us that wear boots and are concerned of crushing the plastic enclosure.
