I have had the bass big muff, wren and cuff tall font russian and little big muff but like most of us gearheads was left unsatisfied so I sold them but I always come back to the muff when in need of a fuzz and I thought I misewell try the original big box version. I have not tried it in my rig yet but will post my thoughts when I do... glamour shot time!

Re: NPD .. First NYC BIG MUFF PI

quick question but would a converter I got in a power all bundle power the big muff without any issues ? is the big muff reverse polarity or will it damage any of my pedals ? when I plugged in the converter and daisy chained it with my other 9 v dc pedals the power bar was off but my Catalinbread SFT and polytune lit up very briefly which worries me

Re: NPD .. First NYC BIG MUFF PI

IIRC the powerall is the same as the 1spot, so you need one of these. The Godlyke equivalent should have been included in your bundle, I just checked and you need the blue cable. No, it's not reverse polarity.

Re: NPD .. First NYC BIG MUFF PI

so just the blue cable will work ? that's the converter I used, I read somewhere it was reverse polarity :smack:

How come you did not jive with the NYC Big Muff Reissue ? just curious as we play similar styles of music and both love fuzz/big muffs

Re: NPD .. First NYC BIG MUFF PI

It's been years since I played it, I just remember not liking it. I could never get it to cut live, and it was just really ratty sounding in a bad way.

Re: NPD .. First NYC BIG MUFF PI

Yeah that is my main concern with every Fuzz I get.. will it cut through ? but I also stack into my Hardwire SC-2 which has plenty of mids so we shall see. I will post my honest thoughts on it after I play it tomorrow

Re: NPD .. First NYC BIG MUFF PI

for your reference: one cap change and you can get all the mids you want if you find you need more.
Green line is the stock NYC big muff with a 3.9n cap. The orange line is a 2n cap and the cyan line is a 10n cap so you can see the range. You can get a mid hump if you want by using a higher value too. I built a russian muff clone and have the flat eq which works better for me, but its easy to experiment if you feel the need.

You can also replace oone (or two) of the pairs of clipping diodes with LEd's if you want a bit more volume and less buzz. They are very moddable to do your bidding.

Re: NPD .. First NYC BIG MUFF PI

thanks Gibson... Good to know it can be modified if needed. I have been watching the video comparisons of the Little Big Muff and the NYC regular Big Muff and the NYC Big Muff has noticably more bass and less buzz/fizz. I loved the Little Big Muff before so I gotta feeling this Big Muff is goanna sound bigger and better in comparison but I might need to do the cap change to get more mids if it does not cut

Re: NPD .. First NYC BIG MUFF PI

you got me inspired..i just swapped out the first set of diodes for LED's. Its pretty cool. I think ill leave them in for at least a few gigs...

Re: NPD .. First NYC BIG MUFF PI

everyones rigs and sounds they are after are different. What you may hate may be my ideal sound. I know of a few heavy bands (O'Brother off the top of my head) who use these big muff reissues on tour so they can't be terrible just gotta be tweaked I'm hoping

Re: NPD .. First NYC BIG MUFF PI

Ok so I put the Big Muff on my board (damn is this thing big, bigger than my whammy V) and plugged it all in, started off with the tone just shy of 12 O'Clock and the sustain at 12 O'Clock with the volume cranked 3/4s the way up and I played some nice clean shimmery chords then kicked on the Big Muff... I Instantly LOVED the big sputtery chords and smooth lead lines. It is like my old Little Big Muff on steroids. Sounded great on it's own with no stacking other than my SFT which is always on set clean.

Now it is not perfect it has some slight fizz to the decay if you are listening closely but I think a cranked amp would take away that problem plus I'm playing through a Roland solid state not my Mesa boogie so that could explain the fizz too. Hopefully it will cut ok at band rehearsals coming up

I recorded a little noodling with the Big Muff on my phone so here is that. Overall for 82 bucks I'm happy, I wish I loved my old Wren and Cuff this much!
