NPD: Fulltone Content

For Christmas I received a nice GC gift card from my mother-in-law. The fun part was what to get with it. I checked out a few used items, all of which turned out to be crap. A couple new lower priced Epi LP's looked promising but I don't really need another guitar. So, I started looking at overdrives and with a few other suggestions, decided to check some out. After playing with the OCD a bit, through a clean channel and overdrive channel, I was convinced that's the one.

Such a great sounding pedal, IMO. I love the dynamics and how clear all the notes of a chord ring through even with the drive cranked. This is what I've been looking for. My last Fulltone experience was less than stellar to be honest (the old red Distortion) so I was a little reluctant to look at their stuff again. Glad I looked past that and tried this out. I sat there playing a sweet partsocaster from the used wall (loaded with Duncans) through a Fender HRD just jamming some Badlands tunes and other various riffs. The OCD handles it all. It's a really cool clean boost too, though there is a touch of dirt on it. It's Version 4.

This very well may be the last overdrive I buy. Well, unless someone drops an old Boss OD-1 on my lap. :) I'll know for sure once I run it through the paces of my setup but I have a good feeling about it.

Great pedal. It's one of those "This is how stuff is supposed to sound" pedals.

Re: NPD: Fulltone Content

Had one on my board for many a year and have no plans to get rid of it. It can really do any gig.

Re: NPD: Fulltone Content

Congrats! I also have a V4 OCD and it sits in between my Soul Food and the Wylde Overdrive that's on my pedalboard, both literally and figuratively.

I use the Soul Food if I just want to enhance my tone without coloring it too much, the OCD if I want to enhance the tone and add some extra flavor along with some more grit if I have the gain turned up, and the Wylde if I just want to take my tone and kick it in the teeth for some harmonically rich balls to the wall growl. So the OCD is the perfect fit if I want something in between how I have the other two setup.

It plays real nice with my main rig. Getting some sweet tones out of it. Can't wait to use it at the next band rehearsal.

It stacks well. It was my always on pedal with the gain set low, and I ran other ODs into it when I wanted a searing lead tone or just more grind.

I rolled back the gain on my amp quite a bit. For quite a while I had been going with no pedals and getting all my gain from the amp, which is easy with the Valvetronix. I'd just roll back the guitar volume for less drive.

What's great is that even with the gain rolled back and having the OCD on, the character of the amp isn't covered up, it's just enhanced. And rolling back the guitar volume retains everything.

With my MG practice amp, it's ok on a few settings. The amp doesn't seem to like getting its input hit too hard.

Re: NPD: Fulltone Content

When new OD pedals come out, I have to look at them. Like the new Visual Sound dual OD pedal dressed in black: yes it is a well built and versatile pedal. But do I really need it? No! For two reasons. First is the loud and clear, "Don't bring home any more junk!" Next up, it doesn't do anything I can't already do with my current OD pedals.

I agree with the above comments on the OCD. Have had the OCD V4 since it came out and have no plans on getting rid of it.

Also have the Fulltone FD2 [ Really think this is a versatile and underappreciated pedal - I just ain't the right guy to review it] and I'm running it into the OCD. This gives me a great deal of sonic range to work with from light push to grit to grind.

Re: NPD: Fulltone Content

One can never have enough OD pedals. I acquired the VS Open road after borrowing one for sometime. I now have two on my board, the other being the drivetrain od. Like having different flavour. I guess all I have are symmetrical clipping ODs? I guess I'll pick up an asymmetrical clipping one later, I guess that VS-XO gives the option to choose between the two types, might kick the drivetrain off my board if i get it..

Hank, as you already like the Visual Sound equipment, this might be your next pedal. I can't compare it to their other OD's. But I do have the new VS H20 V3 Chorus Delay pedal. It is noticeable improvement over my H20 V2. Both of these V3 pedals are good solid pedals.

Here are some clips of the new OD pedal.

^ Yup i really dig their stuff, inexpensive, reliable & sounds great to me, plus the buffer sounds transparent. I like that with the V3 series they allow us to reorder the effects. Big plus i think since you can place some other effect between the two. My board is mostly filled with their pedals now, their phaser, two ods. I hope they come out with a flanger pedal, i'd buy that. I'm not big on chorus or i'd pick up their h2o, route66 also received a v3 upgrade.

Their dual tap & single tap delay has been giving me gas lately, would love to get one of those, the footswitch would endure all the tapping for quite a long time.

Me as well, it was the first overdrive / distortion pedal I was happy with right out of the box.....
