NPD Ibanez Echo Shifter - The 2nd Day review

Does it sound like a Carbon Copy...... yes, you can get there, but its not as "dark", the repeats are more defined and a little brighter than the CC. The modulation is killer! Really one of its best features. It is different than the CC.....better in my opinion and more flexibility to adjust. I have owned an older Ibanez tonelok DE7 delay and to me, there is no comparison. Not even close to the same tone. Don't get me wrong the DE7 was and still is a great delay at its price point. As for the Oscillation switch on this new pedal....almost useless for me. The pedal will go wild past 9 on the feedback control with the switch turned on. I do like the tone and even without the tap tempo feature, easy to dial in your delay time. Posting a video will never do any pedal justice. I can say this one is worth the price of admission, at least to me, and I think if you listen to this one, you may come home with it......Just like I did.

Really well built, great foot switches. Pedal feels substantial. The sides of this pedal are WOOD or a very good simulation of it.....maybe trex, but it has grain even on the edges. It is not going to adapt to velcro very well. The sides sit below the bottom of the pedal. Putting thin strips along the bottom edges of the wood might work.

I like the retro enclosure......sorta like a Moog pedal. This delay and the Paul Gilbert Airplane Flanger are two wins for Ibanez.

I am going to keep this on the board for a little while. It really does have some TONE to it. I have to work with it a little more to get the ambient sound I am looking for. I have found that sound with the Vox Delay Lay and the SD Deja Vu easy, but working harder with this one....and it would seem to be counter intuitive, since this should produce this tone easily. Its just that....I really like what comes out of this pedal. I used to be really into the digital realm but the Carbon Copy and now this one are taking me to the other side. I have a Strymon Brigadier and its on my acoustic board at the moment. Love that pedal and it does everything well, but this Echo shifter....... well, its got a hook to it and it snagged me good!
