NPD: Is it Van Halen Approved? Probably not...

Aceman

I am your doctor of love!
But so what? I don't care.

Sorry for the pre-emptive post, but I just couldn't wait!!!! I'm so excited. Fear not - there shall be no Icemaning here. I'll have this thing together hopefully at lunch. Stay tuned for the pics!!!!

I am finally back to a full compliment of swirl with 2 chorusses, a flanger, a tremolo, and a PHASER!!!!!

Check original post for final version. It's supposed to be Orange. Not sure how well that shows up...

Has Vintage modern switch, Orange LED, and works just fine. I dig the sound. Mostly expect to use it Acoustic (Lightning Strikes by Live, for example), but sometimes you want to get your VH on too....

Re: NPD: Is it Van Halen Approved? Probably not...

Looks nicer in person. I did some touch ups and threw on some clear coat to protect.

I have also given it a run on my acoustic board where I expect I'll find it usually (Although it ripped through the Marshall for some Eruption earlier...)

All in all, I really dig it. Cool sounds. I think I'm partial to the modern vs the vintage. Not a huge difference IMO, but still. Vintage seems more for those times when you want phase but don't want to hear it (perhaps at all?). Was able to totally get my phase on. Not bad for $25 and some paint...

I think that using cheap stuff and repainting would be more VH approved than buying licensed merchandise . . . but what do I know? :P

Never thought about that???? I guess you are right! He has only been a real gear whore since he stopped playing anything worth hearing in the mid/late 80's...

Re: NPD: Is it Van Halen Approved? Probably not...

Looks cool, more EVH than an MXR! Great job.

Re: NPD: Is it Van Halen Approved? Probably not...

I love playing with a phaser on. there's just so many cool sounds to get out of them..... from EVH to Waylon Jennings to Dave Murray.

Re: NPD: Is it Van Halen Approved? Probably not...

Really loving having a non-chorus back in the line up.

Sounds just fine. Anyone care to name the brand?

I'm taking a huge guess but I'm going to say ROSS.

Did you paint it yourself? Looks sweet!

I have a stock MXR Phase 90 on my board.. it works for what I want but it's kind of "vanilla".

I'm taking a huge guess but I'm going to say ROSS.

A Ross Phaser clone would be awesome, but Ross has two knobs: speed and depth.

The control setup makes this an EVH Phase 90 clone. Who sells a kit for $25? BigTone?

Re: NPD: Is it Van Halen Approved? Probably not...

Looks cool Dr Bob. I've had a few MXR phasers in the past and even though I have an awesome and super versatile INFANEM phaser, I find myself missing the Phase 90 tone. I'll probably go for a clone with some mods, as just a speed knob isn't enough for me.

I dig the paint job too.

Re: NPD: Is it Van Halen Approved? Probably not...

I think I may take the rubber ring off of my Microamp and add it...
