NPD! Line 6 MM4

Re: NPD! Line 6 MM4

Tonight will not be the night for an indepth review. My main amp is at my church. So I can't get a Full feel for it with that and my other pedals.

But a quick run through with my Strat and AC4 was fun.

A few things I did notice. Some of this I may have been primed to think due to reading a lot of reviews beforehand.

1) For a used unit it is in decent shape. I've read that the footswitches are notorious for going out on these. I can see that... and feel it... something about them just doesn't feel sturdy. Which is sad considering the rest of the unit feels quite solid.

2) A lot of options to choose from on FX. Being limited to 4 presets is kind of lame. Not a big deal for me but if someone were pretty big into modulation this unit, by itself, would not be the answer. Maybe in conjunction with others... but that would almost defeat the purpose.

3) The Effects available range from super usable to "what the heck?" To my ears anyway...
Ring modulator? Useless.
The CE-1 clone? Wonderful
Leslie Sim? I Get it... but doesn't really sound like the real deal... not that I expected it to. Cool effect anyway...

Also a lot of it feels like more of the same... multiple phasers and chorus to choose from but they don't Feel all that different from each other.

4) Tweakability
Super tweakable... You can go from mild to wild on all the fx.
Some of the paramaters don't seem to vary as much as I would like. You turn the knob so far and it feels like no change. But then a hair more and it jumps! I'm aware that on some settings they act as switches so it is Either/Or and that's fine. But I wish some parameters had more range of sweep.

One thing that may or may not be to my advantage. Some of these FX I have never used before or I'm not very familiar with. So I don't Know if they sound like the real thing.

I probably sound bummed... but I'm not. I am enjoying it a lot and definitely look forward to adding it to my rig.

I have buyer's remorse over Anything I buy. So give me a little while and I will have a more indepth and most likely positive review.

Re: NPD! Line 6 MM4

After some tinkering I have a footswitch that can be used to switch between presets like the above mentioned. It's a simple jump to an alternate preset.

It is a 2 button FS.... I think I will see if I can replace the second with a momentary and make it a tap tempo for my DD-20.

Re: NPD! Line 6 MM4

If you get an EB vol pedal, you need the 25k version...the regular 250k volume pedal won't work at all. Stay away from the Line6 EX1 expression pedal unless you can find it for $10...it is a cheap plastic toy. BTW, I have owned the DM4, MM4 and still own the DL4- all great solid pedals.

Re: NPD! Line 6 MM4

I put my mm4 back into my effects loop last night, after leaving it in its box for probably more than a year. Nice to have these options again.

For now, I'm going to leave the mm4 and dl4 (in that order) in the loop. A wah and distortion are running to my amp's input.

Can't imagine I would need any other effects .... :cool2:
