Re: NPD: PaulC Timmy & Xotic SP

It depends on how much you use comps... If you like them... definitely this one is a keeper.

As far as I can see, its "low" mode is at par with Barber Tone Press, which I think is one of the best out there. And SP's high mode (which I do not like at all) is quite similar with a DynaComp. So it covers quite a wide spectrum. FYI, I prefer Barber and Pigtronix PT to the Keeley, Analogman, Wampler, and some others that I forgot. Wampler was good actually, but not clearly better than the Braber and so the price tag definitely becomes an issue. Pigtronix is kinda weird, very bad placement in terms of input and output jacks, and it takes quite a long time to get the pedal deliver nice tones. It is one of the very few pedals that made me read the manual!

:banghead:

But once dialed in, it is a great one.

I have not compared Pigtronix PT with this guy yet, but I kinda think that I may let go of my Barber.

BTW, this is how Pigtronix PT sounds like with a Blues Jr.

I am thinking of shooting some vids trying to AB Barber's Tone Press and Pigtronix PT with this Xotic SP...

This guy knows what he is talking about... I kinda like his reviews, and think that he is quite funny you know...

Interesting, I love the Xotic small boxes too, nice and compact!!!

That said I guess I'll be sticking with my script RI Dyna and my Hartman.

Try it whenever you get the chance... Just saying...

If I see one I'll give it a spin for sure but by and large I hate comps and really only use them as needed and as effects meaning I have no interest in subtle compressors...I want the effect.

I'll see if the local spots have one next week as I am looking for a few things anyway but it'll be pretty hard to beat the script reissue Dyna for this style comp.

I hate them DynaComps... Too much squish for me. While I see its uses and find it cool that people have strong feelings for them... It definitely is not my thing.

Up until 2 years ago, I did not use any comps. Because of the previous paragraph... The thing that got me was some country style playing you know. It was ok, but not exactly as I hear on them records. So started checking them just for the heck of it. I had used a Dynacomp and Boss CS2 way back when... (my primary use in the past was for gigs and all, and I think then DynaComp is very helpful, getting an "even" response during the rythm stuff gets very "easy" :) ) And when I tried it again, I hated it again you know.

:)

Yet, the Barber was different. The whole blend thing is really cool.

But Barber cannot do that much of Dynacomp stuff. It is more for subtle kinda comp that you are not into. Yet, this SP can do the Dynacomp thing as well, with the mini set at high you know... So your basic comp use is covered... And you'd have the additional subtle & clean mode...

That's why I think you'd like it.

Man, I wish there was a place here where I could audition the Timmy ... or is it one of those no-can-fail pedals since it's so easy to flip? Never been much of an OD person, which is why I think I only have a couple of overdrives ...

Re: NPD: PaulC Timmy & Xotic SP

Interesting that you like the SP (Ross based) but not the Dyna since the Ross is a copy of the Dyna Comp...I guess it's true, small difference really do matter!

It also looks like the big feature is the blend control and I always turn those off and leave 'em!

I'll give it a shot if I can find one...I do like to try new stuff!

Yeah, it's pretty easy to flip, especially if you get one of the Surf Green ones that Humbucker Music is re-releasing within the next month or two. They did 100 of the first run (of which I had one) and they were so popular that they're doing a second run of 100. People were selling them for $200 and up on ebay a while back - and they cost the same as a regular Timmy.

Seriously, as a fuzz guy through and through, I'll never get rid of mine. It's just magical. When I get my Bassman nice and cracking, around 6 or so on the volume depending on the guitar, the Timmy just sends it over the top, jizz in my pants magic.

Re: NPD: PaulC Timmy & Xotic SP

You know I am with you on this.

Now I have one Tim, one old Timmy, and now this "new" Timmy...

B :friday:

Nice; what would you say the differences are in color/response/transparency between them? I've always heard a lot of things about them, but I've never actually bothered to try them myself.
