NPD. Rat clone.

Re: NPD. Rat clone.

So, like an identical clone, or...?

Re: NPD. Rat clone.

I miss my Rat...need to get another one. Awesome pedal–enjoy!

I think I'm going to love it. Has all those tones I remember hearing coming from my older brother's stereo through the 80's. ...and the filth my amp spewed forth when I put this after my modified Ram's Head BMP clone... OMG... The cops want to charge my rig with lewd conduct. Lol

Re: NPD. Rat clone.

Nice. I used to use a modded RAT. It felt stiff and compressed as hell, but sounded killer.

Re: NPD. Rat clone.

Filter knob on this one even works the same as the original.

I kinda wish I could have gotten one of his other Rats that had been modded. They had a bigger enclosure to fit the mods and a mini toggle to go between the modded modes and the original.

But, this sounds so good, it's not really a big deal.

NPD. Rat clone.

Just yesterday, I put my DIY Rat clone back on my pedalboard, after a brief fling with a Tone Reaper. When I want the compressed, nasty, harmonic-filled tone that my BB Preamp won't give, the Rat is the way to go.

It's just yer basic LM308 old-timey Rat, built on a MadBean PC board.

very cool!!! Where and how much?? I never had much interest in a Rat till I started remembering going to a Buddy's house in the late 80s and he had JCM 800 (was sooo jealous) and a Rat pedal... (plus he was a great player.) He nailed all the great tones... i recently bought a cheap Rat clone on ebay.. Has a switch and is supposed to emulate all 3 of the rat tones. normal, turbo and whatever the other was... It sounds pretty cool, but havent been able to play with it much.. But, dont think it has the orig chip..

Re: NPD. Rat clone.

I got mine from a local builder, TL Pedals. $100 Canadian. Unfortunate he's getting out of the pedal game. It's a damn shame because his builds are solid and sound amazing.

He had 1 Rat left when I got mine, but it's since been sold. I think all he has left is a tube screamer and will soon have a treble booster. He took his online store off his website because anything left that he's selling, he'd rather not have to deal with shipping back and forth for warranty stuff if it breaks... Mind you, he's only got a 1% failure rate... And it's debatable whether some of those were faulty builds or customer error.

Re: NPD. Rat clone.

Prolly cust error.... Dealing with peeps in something like this would be difficult. They drop a tv in a pool and expect it should be fixed under warranty.. Or try to mod and mess them up, etc.. well, crap... oh well.. didnt need to spend the money anyhow... Thanks for the reply tho. I would like to find something like this that is solid made, a great clone of the original. Cuz even buying a genuine RAT, it isnt the same as the origninal ones..

Re: NPD. Rat clone.

Yeah, I've tried the modern rats and they don't sound like this one. They get you in the ball park but just fall short. The 80's tones I've managed to nail with this pedal were not as easy to dial in with other modern rats. I was fortunate to discover this one was a part for part clone.

Re: NPD. Rat clone.

And I know what you're talking about with customer error... I used to work for a wireless phone company... You would not believe the things people would admit to and expect a free replacement. My favorite response was "I work for the company, and if I destroyed my phone the way you did, even I would be unable to get a free phone".
