I wanted a new voice for this studio project I am working on. I think I found it. When you push up the RANGE and PRESENCE on this pedal, it gets super thick and heavy. I have the gain around 2 o'clock and it is more than enough dirt for the highest of high-gain stuff. So far I am blown away.

So is this supposed to be the pedal for that particular song? Because the tone on that song is a little weird.

You could definitely dial something like that if you rolled back the PRESENCE and RANGE. From what I can see at first blush, it captures those Master of Reality, Vol. 4 and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath tones very well. As you push forward, the RANGE and PRESENCE get really thick. You can definitely capture Tony with it, but like any pedal, you can deviate from its intended design and purpose. I rolled the GAIN all the way back and got some cool tones. GAIN on zero is not zero. There is still a lot of dirt there. But yes, you can definitely do some tone sculpting with this thing.

Ive had my eye on the SC and now its available in a purple finish.

My lil H&K would take that pedal quite well.

Glad ya found a new toy to rock out with.

its supposed to be similar to a treble booster into a raging laney amp, ive only played with one a bit but there was some good heavy tones in there

That is exactly what it is. The advantage is my Rangemaster clones sound great but can get shrill depending on your attack, how much gain you are using, and where you are playing on the neck. The SC seems more even across the tonal spectrum and is definitely more controllable.

As a whole, Tony Iommi's sound on Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath is very different than the albums before or after. Lots of overdubs, with the rhythms probably a mixture of a dozen overdubs on the power chords alone mixed with cocaine.

I was planning on doing some layering of tracks in the studio but with my heart condition, I think I will pass on the cocaine.

i have a rangemaster clone but with a switch to choose the stock setting, or two other options that boost more than just the upper high end like stock. its housed in an old fire alarm box! i think the range knob is sorta similar in that it adjusts what frequencies you are boosting.

into a clean amp, it can be shrill as you said, even on the "fatter" options, but into an already overdriven amp, it can be a glorious boost since it cuts the low end. having that whole setup in one pedal is pretty sweet!

I just read Geezer Butler's autobiography. A short, very easy read...but man, it is amazing those guys are alive.

That's what I thought. I already started the return process. The pedal sounded amazing at bedroom levels but when I brought it to practice today it was shrill, super gritty and very noisy. If you dial back the Rngermasterr it gets less shrill and noisy but also thinner. I am bummed out because it sounded so good at home.

bummer, hate when things seem awesome off the bat then fall flat in a real world situation

Oh no! Maybe it was designed to sound great in a bedroom? haha
I think I recall someone else on this forum not liking this particular pedal, too.
