NPD: Tumnus

NPD: Tumnus

If by "disclaimer" you mean "lie," then sure. The truth is not that the intellectual property of others is being used for demonstrative purposes, but that they are using for marketing. They are using another's intellectual property to earn profit...assuming the estate of C.S. Lewis has not allowed it to slip into the public domain. Them stating that they aren't doing that doesn't mean that they aren't...and in fact, it's kind of dumb, because it provides zero legal "excuse," and all it does is draw attention to it.

Again, it's monetarily harmless, meaning that I'm sure the existence of this pedal is not cutting into the sales of C.S. Lewis related items. But they are still taking someone else's fictional subjects and using them to make their own money.

And on top of it, it's a lame-ass character. [emoji3]

By "disclaimer" I meant just that. I'm not in a position to judge whether or not that constitutes "demonstrative purposes" or not.

IIRC the name originated on a TGP thread and was a silly play on the Klon. It was supposed to be another mythical character but based on the characteristics of the pedal, Tumnus felt like a good fit.

Like you say, I doubt CS Lewis is affected in a negative way and I don't think it's what is making the pedal successful. At all. One could argue that playing on the name, shape, knobs etc of the original Klon Centaur is helping others (eg Ceriatone's Centura).

5 posts over the pedal's name. OMG. That's what we're here to talk about. Is this the lawyer's section of the forum?

Oh you ain't seen nuthin' yet. If you go over to the pickup lounge, there is a thread discussing inductance, resonance peak, DC resistance and some other esoteric engineering terms, complete with computer generated analytical graphs. And guess what? There are only less than 4 people actively participating.

WTF is this? Electrical engineers forum?

It IS a pickup forum, and those things directly relate to pickup design...

I’m shocked the Pink Panther lasted as long as it did. I’m surprised the Charlie Brown still exists.
