NPD Tumnus

Had a bit of money burning a hole in my pocket and ventured out and picked up a Wampler Tumnus. Oh my goodness this sounds amazing through the Jubilee. Brings out all sorts of harmonics from my guitar I never recall hearing.

Also placed my first Sweetwater order this eve, small pedal board and a Red Witch Violetta delay pedal coming this way. That should arrive on Wednesday, maybe it will meet me when I get home from work.

Re: NPD Tumnus

Congrats on a great pedal! Is that box as big as it looks?

I love my Deluxe. It’s a top-shelf piece of kit.

Re: NPD Tumnus

By the way, the Tumnus is no more. The circuit will live on, but with a different name due to a C&D letter.

Re: NPD Tumnus

Yeah thats the box, full size box for a mini pedal. I thought about the deluxe but for my needs, the regular lil fella will do just fine.

Who issues the c&d letter?

Re: NPD Tumnus

Knew it was from the book, didnt think it was easy to confuse a fictional character and a guitar pedal, but whatever floats their boat

Re: NPD Tumnus

After copying the Klon circuit to create a pedal to sell, Wampler then copied the name and likeness of a character from the Chronicles of Narnia to stick on the box. The copyright owner found out and didn't want Wampler using it without permission to make money. How does this make the copyright owner lame?

I kinda feel like if the name was Wingxiao instead of Wampler we would be having a very different discussion about copyright laws.

Re: NPD Tumnus

Copyrights really apply to like subjects, so if Tumnus the fawn was used in another book without permission, Id say better fight, but since there is 0 chance of that confusion, again not much of a fight, but as said, Brian and company probably did the right thing.

I agree with Steve. I actually thought they had permission. Well, maybe they can call it Faun. I wouldn’t mind if they went with a female faun.

Granted, an effects pedal is not a book . . . but without the book/story Wampler absolutely would not have chosen that name and image to put on the pedal they're selling. They're making money by using a copyright they don't own . . . and they specifically chose that image/name because they thought that association with it would sell more pedals. That's the whole reason that guitar pedals aren't just grey metal boxes . . . because the pictures on them are advertising used to sell the pedals.

That's all fine if they got permission, but they didn't.

Try making a 'Seymour Duncan' brand of condoms. I bed SD would shut that down pretty quickly . . . even though condoms aren't like pickups at all, because it implies some sort of relationship between your product and the copyright you're appropriating.

Fixed. In a manner of sorts.

Re: NPD Tumnus

As I said, the company did the right thing. Now back on track, love this little pedal, have to put some more use on it after is cleaned up.

Re: NPD Tumnus

I'm new to the klon game too. Went in to a shop to try some low gainers to see if I can find something better put together than my nobels. Tried a bunch. Kept coming back to the silver archer. Looking forward to seeing how it performs with the band. I'm guessing pretty good because it is not compressed so much as just taking the clean amp tone, and adding a little harmonic thickness and colour and trimming off the real lows. Basically taking that super clean snappy fender blackface tone and adding some muscle and a little forgiveness. I reckon it will be on more than it is off.

Re: NPD Tumnus

Glad you're digging it! I went for the Deluxe version like
Piggy. Great pedals! I love the transparency and the tone
shaping abilities. Plays along real well with other boosts
too. Enjoy!

Peace,

Darrin

Re: NPD Tumnus

I like Wampler stuff. I have their Paisley Drive, which I like a lot with single coils mostly. A Tumnus is on my list, even though I have more boost pedals than I need, I figure I will bump into a used one cheap one day and grab it.
