NPD YJM Strat Bridge

Re: NPD YJM Strat Bridge

Love the SSL-6 in the bridge and SSL-2s in the middle and neck; yes, it is plenty Stratty. Don't love the noise though.

Also love a reverse angle on all three singles for brighter low strings and softer high strings.

I've never found a way around the noise, and I've been trying for 25 years. I've installed every noiseless single known to man. Some of them are fine with gain, but they all **** the bed clean. If you want the tone the noise is part of the package. You learn tricks for keeping it under control.

I'm considering the Injector Neck in the bridge and a pair of Area 67s for the middle and neck. From what I can tell they are the current state of the art and most closely match the characteristics of the target set.

I like the sound of the original Lace Sensor Gold, but the feel is slightly off; though I understand the Emerald might be an improvement. Neither the Silver nor the Light Blue inspire much confidence in copping the tone of an SSL-6.

I also like the sound of The Cruiser, but it still belongs squarely in the humbucker camp.

The sTK-S6 is very similar in sound to the SSl-6. It wasn't 100% silent in my environment, so I moved on. Might work for you though.

Re: NPD YJM Strat Bridge

That's encouraging as I'd like not to buy more pickups than I have to. That said, if I go the S6 route I'd try keeping the SSL-2 in the middle, splitting the S6 when combining the two, hoping for proper notch tone and hum cancellation. However, I keep reading that the stack pickups are louder than their true single counterparts when running in hum cancelling mode and louder still when splitting them to run as true singles, which has me hesitant.

I've got other ideas/options to hash out and should start a new discussion. Thanks for taking the time to comment on my off-topic post in your thread.

I like the Area and the Virtual Vintage series. To me anyways, they sound like any real single coils both dirty and clean.

As far as true single coils go, though, I never have problems with their noise when played clean. You can also try to move around in the room to get a spot that's a bit quieter too. Of course the noise never completely goes away, but it does get just a tad better. It's the distorted applications that bother me with true single coils.
