NPPD (Pedal & Project)

So I got an email (several actually) from GuitarFetish talking about how they had a list of things that were 25% off for a limited time. Of course I did the only responsible thing and checked it out. There were a bunch of goodies in the list, mostly stuff in which I had no interest, but I succumbed to temptation on a couple things.

First was a pedal... their “Brownie Classic” to be exact. I’ve been kinda wanting a Marshall-ish pedal but just didn’t need to spend the money... but at $37.50 ($50 less 25%) I figured I could take the chance. Besides, their demo video and the other demos I found online sounded pretty good.

It came today and I got it installed on my board. It’s SWEET!! Exactly the sound I was hoping to get! [emoji41][emoji1303][emoji2] I honestly don’t have much to go on for drawing comparisons to discuss with you guys, but it sounds great to me.

Here’s a link to it on their website, and their demo video if you want to hear it:

Second was a body and neck that caught my eye (it’s no secret that I’m a sucker for a pretty face). So it looks like I have myself a little HH Strat project!

The body is gaudy... I LOVE IT!

I have their Tele version of the same neck on the Tele build I did earlier this year (but with a maple fretboard) and like it, so I feel pretty good about this one.

The body and neck are supposed to arrive tomorrow. Thinking chrome hardware and covers on the buckers with cream plastic (to match the binding). Can’t wait to dig in!

Update #3... a couple more very cool things:

1) The body weighs like nothing... this girl’s gonna be easy on the ol’ back!

2) The body and neck are a perfect fit!

3) Pictures don’t do it justice... this thing is really pretty! The top is the same type of laminate they use on drum kits.

Re: NPPD (Pedal & Project)

I like the body. The headstock cap wouldnt be my preference. But for a great deal and if its a good neck, I could overlook.. Very cool its so light!! my glass back would appreciate that too...

Re: NPPD (Pedal & Project)

Ya know, for all those "things" you make, you could have actually bought one high end guitar.

Re: NPPD (Pedal & Project)

Building is the fun!

Jerry do you need to rub one out? You have been a little grumpier than usual lately.

Neck and body look pretty groovy, Brian. What pickups/wiring are you doing?

There’s a set of pickups that I put into my RG which I REALLY like the sound of and also come in a sufficiently gaudy finish to fit right into this build. GFS’ Dream 180 humbuckers.

The best way I can describe them is sort of “Pearly-Gates-ish.“ They have just a little bit of upper bite and clean up really well with pick dynamics or a volume control.

As for wiring, I was just working on that one yesterday. I’m pretty sure I’ve come up with what I want to do, but I’ll have to post the diagram later on. I wanted to keep it pretty simple, there are just three holes already in the body (presumably volume, tone, and a Les Paul style 3-way toggle). I already know that I like the sounds of these pickups split, and I like to have a phase reverse on my guitars as well. I was going to do it with a couple of push-pull pots, but I’m one of these guys who never uses his tone control. I have a few 3-way, 4-pole rotary switches hanging around so I’m going to replace the tone control with one of those. The #2 position would be normal humbucking mode, and positions one and three would be coils split (inner coils), and phase reverse.

In fact, once I post it, I wouldn’t mind having a couple of extra sets of eyes checking it over. GFS uses the same wire colors as Seymour Duncan, but their neck pickup is NOT flipped around (north and south) like Seymour Duncan does. For inner coils and hum-canceling I will have to flip the neck pickup… But that’s no big deal because there’s no logo on it anyway. I did the same thing in my RG.

I was so thinking filter-trons....excellent pup selection!
