Thats right, New Strap Button Placement Day.

For years I've wanted to relocate the upper strap button on my LTD Viper (neck dive) but was too timid to drill my guitar. Today it was annoying me too much, so I went ahead and did it.

I tried a few different locations just taping the strap on (painter's tape on the body, then duct taped the strap onto the painter's taped surface) and right behind the neck there actually seemed a bit better than the tip of the horn. That or they were about equal and I dramatically prefer the look of it behind the neck. At any rate thats where I drilled, and it made a huge difference. It feels just great standing up now.

Guitar shot, just for the hell of it-

Re: NSBPD

No and no. 24, it may look like 25 because of the binding at the end there.

Re: NSBPD

Gibson put them there for a reason. For that design, it is the best spot, though it does not always cure neck dive in extreme body to neck weight ratios.

I do not understand why ESP does that on the viper/SGs, and on the Explorer and Gibby 60s V types they use the button placement Gibson realized was sub par,.and corrected.

Glad it worked out. I had to do the same thing to a BC Rich Warlock. Another company that has wonky button placement.

Re: NSBPD

I just tried the same with my LTD Ex. Its improved, but not as drastically as the Viper.

Re: NSBPD

Why thank you. Here it is without the sun glare and all that-

And it looked like this originally, which I find very boring in comparison-

Re: NSBPD

Actually, the best placement to cure neck dive is at very tip of the upper horn. Simple physics. That's why 95% of all guitars made have it located there. Easthetics (of the design of the guitar) is generally the reason why some guitars put the strap button on the back (of the neck heal or upper bout/horn).

Re: NSBPD

Actually I tried it there (like I said in the OP I taped the strap on to the guitar in a couple spots for balance testing before I drilled anything) and I found the back of the heel to be better or at least equal. The tip of the horn was where I was expecting to drill before I tape-tested.

Re: NSBPD

I neglected to photograph the most vital part. My guitar is officially sponsored by Casa Noble-
