NYXL strings

I got myself a set of these strings to try on my lp copy, i felt hot because the packaging looks like some exotic condoms :headbang: ribbed for maximum discomfort. They were quite expensive so naturally i had really high hopes.

I saw some guys mention tension changes with these strings but they are in fact identical to any other similar gauge sets. I'm not really sure if its just that ''new string feeling'' or that its the coating they have but damn they feel smooth. They bend, slide really easily and as a bonus compared to my usual eb's they came rust free straight out the pack.

For anyone who hasn't tried them i would suggest giving them a go. Once or if they ever come down in price i would consider them for all my guitars.

I bet i am slow to the mark on this. I haven't changed string brands in 5 years

I wanted to try them as well, but the price scared me away a bit since it was twice as much as my regular EXL's. And honestly, I'm perfectly happy with EXL strings, they last me very long and sound great... I might try NYXL though, at some point. :P
I've never change string brands either, at some point I got all kinds of different ones and settled on the ones I liked the most out of ~10 sets, d'addarios

Re: NYXL strings

I use the same strings, and I swear by them now. What I truly love is how long they stay "fresh". They don't get really dull really quick like some other brands of strings I've tried. I've had the same set on my les paul for probably two months and they still feel nice. I also have yet to break one of them, which is a big bonus.

Re: NYXL strings

I have a set for my 7 string but have yet to put them on. Currently using EB Cobalts, anyone compare the two ?

Re: NYXL strings

I loved their stability, but dont care for the tone or feel. For my hands they felt stiffer to bend compared to standard XLs of the same guage.

Re: NYXL strings

Love the sound and feel of them. The one "down side" to me was they claim that the steel used will last longer, but when using them, regular xls, and ernie ball strings i was still getting broken strings every 3rd show. But other than that I love them

Re: NYXL strings

I prefer the original XLs to the NYXLs. I find NYXLs tone is lacking due to their elasticity. Both string models feature the same tension per string but, I believe the higher quality materials and construction of the NYXLs makes them an improvement.

But, yeah, everyone should at least give 'em a spin. Everyone should also try D'Addario's Balanced Tension series as well.

Re: NYXL strings

I like them a lot - I had a tech throw some on my Dean 350/Floyd. I agree with the comments. Feeling is awesome, tone is just missing a little something….they are lasting really well.

I think they are an AMAZING practice string set. I'm sticking with GHS Boomers for showtime.

Re: NYXL strings

The guitar i put them on i am not really that familiar with. I have had it for a year or so now but i never bothered putting strings on. I think it sounds pretty sweet considering it has emg h2 pickup....sigh and its el gibson lp shaped awkwardness.

I will continue on with them but i think considering the price i will just stick with the rusty pinkies.

Re: NYXL strings

I always use Elixirs simply for the anti-rust property, and the price of NYXLs don't beat that for me. That said, I have played a set in the past and I generally notice easier bends and harmonics. But that's it really. Not something you can't get with a tiny bit more effort on your own.

Re: NYXL strings

All the coated strings I've tried sound somewhat dead. Plus I don't like the slippery feel for bending. And the price is just the final nail in the coffin to continue their use.

Re: NYXL strings

^^^ IMHO they sound like ordinary XL's but are pre-stretched. That's their big plus. In a trem guitar they are a must.

Re: NYXL strings

Finally broke a string on my 7 string Shecter. Going to put the set of NYXL's on and hear what I think
