Well, I suppose I'll know soon, one way or the other.

I liked them at first then i realized their sterile. They will stay on the guitar and i will play them but i don't think i will be stringing any other guitars with them.

Re: NYXL strings

Hmm, sterile often translates into good for death metal. Can't wait to try them.

Re: NYXL strings

hi all, i just changed strings and put a set of 10-46 NYXL on my LP. i currently use Dunlop and DAddario XL on my guitars as standard, but i often change only the wound strings. i hate new plain strings, they are brittle and slippery.
These NYXL's address this issue, because they feel more like broken in. I happen to like that, on the other side the wounds do not have that super full piano sound. Up to now i am torn, maybe DAddario should offer a mixed set: XL wounds with NYXL plains ...DAddario, just to please me :fingersx:

Re: NYXL strings

^^ I agree, NYXL definitely react like they are pre-stretched, that's why they mostly advertised those for trem guitars. Once one discovers the secrets of string stretching then, I guess NYXL are just pricey. Also they dont have a 0.009-0.054 7-string version.

It has nothing to do with that for me. Its just the coating makes them feel like a nylon.

Re: NYXL strings

I gave them a run they are good strings but I have been playing Boomers for years and can sometimes find them under $4 a set. The delta in price/benefit was not enough to make me change. The only other strings I find give me a dramatic change in tone, clarity and sustain are Thomastik-Infeld. Once in awhile I will find them on clearance and grab a box. If not on sale they are way too expensive for me.

They aren't coated, although D'Addario's EXP coated sets actually do use the NYXL formula.

I don't like those either (the wound strings are even a touch less in tension, thus making them feel even more like spaghetti noodles). XLs are the best for me in overall tension and tone. YMMV

I like them, but I'd probably like them more if they were say, two bucks more than a regular pack. As it is, I tend to buy regular strings just because it's so much cheaper.

Re: NYXL strings

I just put a set on my 7 strings. They don't sound as bright or deep as the set of EB Cobalts that they replaced. As I recall, when I used to use EXP's. they seemed a bit brighter. I liked the slick feel of them. Going to wait and see how the NYXL's are after a week or so.

Re: NYXL strings

I didn't notice much of a difference between them and regular XL's. Maybe I'll give 'em another shot once I get my tube amp. The packaging is cool, though.

Re: NYXL strings

Was just playing them again. I don't get the same harmonics or sustain that I get from the Cobalts. Well, I'll leave them in until one breaks. So that will be the longevity test.

Ha! feel boned? They might be nice for chords and stuff but any metaling they just flop like an old mans c...

Re: NYXL strings

That's OK, I mainly use my 7 for rhythm. Never afraid to try new things. Next year, when I change them, I'll put Cobalts back on. In the meantime, I have a clean boost that will make them scream for leads, just not quite as well.

Re: NYXL strings

This thread still going? Just like my NYXL's

Like Bruce said - They are good enough and long lasting enough that I dig them for practice strings. But I prefer my Boomers.

Re: NYXL strings

I just bought a set today...Im kind of pissed to find out they are coated? I did not know that.
Of course ive never tried coated strings but I dont want to either.

Ill put them on tonite and see whats up.

Im sick of EB Slinkys wearing out so fast. They dont break or anything but they just get dull real quick.

Ive been using Dunlop strings lately I think I like those better than EBs.

the best strings I ever used were Pyramid Max Performance. They used to be $11
which I thought was expensive but now I wish they were that cheap.
Those last forever and feel lovely. I stopped using pure nickel thats why I stopped using them.

Re: NYXL strings

oh...good to know!

whats with the cobalt strings? dude at the store said they are louder? but when I asked if they push an amp harder he said no.
are they more magneto or something?
