I don't usually share things I find on the net, but this is THE neatest amp wiring I've ever seen... I am sure some of you will enjoy this...or maybe even purchase what looks to be a very nice amp. Wish I could buy it!

This is the guts of a very rare Royal JPP50 (based on Jimmy Page's Hiwatt head)

See the rest at the auction:

Re: OCDologists! Impressive Royal Jimmy Page "Hiwatt" head

I like how one person sent in a question obviously disappointed that the power cable doesn't come with the $3k amp he's shopping for. That's like someone complaining about the price of the gas they're putting in their Ferrari. It is a beautiful amp though, and I'll bet it's an ear-bleedingly loud 50 watts.

In this instance, however, it's more comparable to complaining that the key to the gas cap is not included. The buyer will need to make his own power cable because he won't be able to buy it.

I'd just have a good amp tech or electrician take care of it. IMO, if I could drop $3k on a guitar amp, then I should be able to spend the $50-100 or so it would take to get that done. Just like you could have a locksmith take care of the gas cap problem ;).

There has been alot of discussion regarding those amps on other forums.
some good, some not so good.

For half that price you can get a real HIWATT, aka one built by Hylight Electronics.

hey Rid,
Where did you get the center picture? 1970 DR103 Bass serial # 763 ????

That DR201 #3049 in the top pic was mine too! LOL

@Rid - sweet pics, thanks for that!

Re: OCDologists! Impressive Royal Jimmy Page "Hiwatt" head

That is military spec stuff..
They use to make about 40 amps pr month I think.
Awesome job, and they last forever those amps.

Sweet...that would be a nice geeky poster on the wall..haha

Re: OCDologists! Impressive Royal Jimmy Page "Hiwatt" head

I still have #673. But I had to sell #3049 about a year and a half ago.

I did replace it with DR201 #1949 from Colin Pattenden the original bassist with Manfred Mann. He bought the amp from Dave Reeves in 1971 when he was still building them in his house. Although by then he had subcontracted Harry Joyce Electronics to help wire 40 a month and this 201 was wired by HJ.

Hopefully you willl get another some day!

Re: OCDologists! Impressive Royal Jimmy Page "Hiwatt" head

The short answer is he used them live from July '69 to November '71. The longer answer can be found here.
