Octaver and EQ placement....

I have a Boss OC-2 octaver and a Boss GE-7 equallizer, and I was wondering if I should put them in the direct chain or in the effects loop. I can put one in each, I really just want what sounds/works best. Suggestions?

Re: Octaver and EQ placement....

It's been awhile since I ran an effects chain, but when I did, I usually put the EQ ahead of the Octave Divider (which was always last in the chain) and ran them in front of the amp, not through the effects loop.

Re: Octaver and EQ placement....

I've heard that EQ works better in the effects send + return, than in front of the amp, is this true?

Re: Octaver and EQ placement....

I'd put the octaver first in the signal chain. The placement of the EQ is not that critical, but i prefer it just before the amp.

Re: Octaver and EQ placement....

The GE7 is going to work better and be less noisey in the effects loop...I don't use an ocatve pedal and so I can't offer any advice on that one?

Re: Octaver and EQ placement....

Some of this depends upon the sound you are after-
When dealing with crunch and EQ, EQ in front of the preamp doesn't change EQ as much as it changes the character of the crunch tone- I've been able to get sounds that break up in the low end but remain almost clean on the highend- (this is even easier to do wiht 2 amps)

After the preamp, it works much more like EQ in the studio, ie let's scoop the mids or increase the low end-
Definately worth trying because the differnce is pretty extreme
