OD/Distortion pedal for Bandmaster BF

Hey all,

I'm looking for an overdrive and distortion unit for my BF Bandmaster amp. I'm currently using a cab loaded with 2x12" Eminence Tonkers. I'm looking for 2 different pedals b/c I'd like the ability to go from very soft clipping to a heavy rock sound and everywhere between. I'd like to stick with fairly high quality gear (true bypass, for example).

For the lighter clipping, I'd like something approximating a 'Little Wing' rhythm sound.

For the rock sound, think more along the lines of RR Tribute type tones.

The main guitars I'm using with this setup are a Strat with Jazz/JB config for the heavy stuff and a second Strat with Chubtone single coils for the cleaner material, if that helps.

Thanks!

keeley mods i hear are good, just go to their website, theyve modded a lot of pedals, like the sd-1(overdrive) ds-1 (distortion) or they ahve a lot more, from different companies, check them out.

OD - Boss Bd-2, Digitech Bad Monkey, Barber Silver LTD

Distortion - MI Audio CrunchBox, Carl Martin Plexitone, tonebeone Hot British

You could try most out at Guitar Center.

Boss SD-1 or Tube Screamer, I hear good things about the Digitech Bad Monkey too.

Check out the old Ibanez MS10s Metal Charger. My set up is has a SD-1 and a MS10 and I can cover both of your requests. I use both as boosts for my Trace head which has plenty of gain on it's own, so I keep the gain on both pedals pretty low. The MS can get pretty crunchy if you crank the gain, you can also punch it with the SD-1 in front for solos.

Thanks for the replies guys.

The problem with checking them out at GC is that I don't have my amp there to see how they would interact. Does anyone have any firsthand experience with the Carl Martin? I heard a sample of a CM delay pedal that sounded fantastic.

Sorry, you were posting while I replied to the first two posters. The BM is actually a pretty clean amp...this woundn't be a situation where the pedal would add to significant gain on the head, as is your case. I'll def try out a SD-1. I've also heard, in passing, good things about the Bad Monkey...I've not liked most the the Digitech stuff I've tried in the past, but maybe it's time to revisit them.

One of our forum members designed the plexitone. Look up Rid on the members list and shoot him a pm.

Yeah, I meant that the MS10 could get gainy enough for those RR tones if you crank the gain. I used to use one with an old non-MV Marshall that was running pretty clean.

Definitely check out Carl Martin too, they are kinda pricey, but sound great. I should qualify my suggestions with the statement that I try to squeeze as much out of as little $ as I can.

Re: OD/Distortion pedal for Bandmaster BF

Check out the Boss MD-2. It can give you all the sounds you are looking for, but there is only a single channel. You would have to crank some knobs every time you wanted a new setting.

Pricey??
How so??
They got build in powersupplies:D
+-12v too;)

A $200+ for a stompbox falls into the pricey range for me. I'm not saying they're not worth it, like I said, I'm just cheap (actually, I just don't have that much laying around to put into pedals right now, maybe if I was single...). Of course, I"m using a 2-1/2 channel amp with plenty of gain, I don't need a multi-channel stompbox. More than one on my pedalboard is kinda overkill, but they are voiced very differently so they boost different frequencies. I do like driving even high gain amps with some boost, you can't get that kind of sustain and compression for an amp alone.

I did point him in your direction, for his BM, the Plexitone would be a great pedal to use!

Re: OD/Distortion pedal for Bandmaster BF

Farkus, I ran a Plexitone, FD II 10th, & the SFX-03 with the Bandmaster & all 3 worked very well.

If I had to choose one.....the SFX-03 will give you what you described :bigthumb:

Re: OD/Distortion pedal for Bandmaster BF

One pedal, the Duncan Twin Tube, may be able to do this for you. Also, the Silver Dragon, Mesa V Twin, H&K Tubeman or Koch preamp pedal may do this in one shot for you.

+1 I drilled holes in my pedal board and removed the rubber backing from my SFX-03 so it could be PERMANENTLY! mounted to my board. This was a BIG MISTAKE !:smack: I don't need a pedal board anymore. All I use is the SFX-03. The pedal board stays home and collects dust.
BTW, Evan, If your reading this... How can I get a new rubber backing for my SFX-03?:laugh2: (Hope I didn't void the warranty.:13: )
