OD pedal for guitar AND bass?

I want a OD/dist pedal i can use for both my guitar and bass(es) but i want two different sounds for the instruments. For bass i want a mild overdrive sound and for guitar i want a John christ like tone, is there a magic pedal out there that will get me these sounds? I have borrowed a DOD YJM308 pedal today and it's actually really great, any other tips on pedal to check out?

About the DOD, when i play it with my Warmoth '51 Precision the more i turn the gain knob up on the pedal the more single coil hum/hiss i get, is this normal?

Well I've got a Marshall Jackhammer that does anything from just breaking up overdrive up to pretty heavy distortion but I've never tried it with a bass.

The Marshall Jackhammer is a great pedal,I use one and it gets my vote...Better sounding than a stock DS1 also..

i havent tried it but the i read that the Electro Harmonix Muff is good for bass as well as guitar. Cliff Burton used it on bass.

Try the Ibanez TS-9DX Turbo Tube Screamer for Bass and you'll be amazed!
