Official "Submit your counterfeit claim to Gibson" thread!!!!!

Re: Official "Submit your counterfeit claim to Gibson" thread!!!!!

Point of order, you dont have to invent something to get a trademark for it. UPS didnt invent brown vans but try open a delivery company with brown vans and see what happens. I even know of a drag racer who had painted a car red with a bendy white stripe down the side, this was enough to get Coca Cola Corp involved. (it did look pretty similar to a coke can) Nothing happened but they did ask him to remove or modify it before any further action occurred.

The point is you dont have to invent something to become known for it and it to become your trademark.

Exactly. Like double cream humbuckers. DiMarzio didn't invent them, but **** you if you want to buy some from another pickup manufacturer. Trademark laws are largely capricious and without value to society.

Sure, of course, my comment is playing off Mark Agnesi's comments of Gibson "Innovation" and "Authenticity" . -plus half of that list is Patents and the rest is innovation or style Gibson didn't come up with. This thread is a joke about counterfeits -which includes all forms and Gibson's defense of such.

Hell, they didn't even invent Robotuners either -but I'm not sure why they are not bragging about that at this point :lmao:

Agree, and true -but my thread includes any counterfeit accusation under the sun. Patents included (which are inventions) etc -and is a direct spoof on Mark's comments of innovation and authenticity -so literally anything Gibson suggests is their "innovation" is fair game . -don't care if they invented it or not -just if they suggest that they do with their innovation posts -which they have.

So have fun poking the bear -if you feel the impulse!

Re: Official "Submit your counterfeit claim to Gibson" thread!!!!!

Admins, do I need to put a disclaimer at the front of this thread to remind people it's for jokes and entertainment and not legally binding and have no expectation of Gibson doing anything about these submissions?

If you are offended or not entertained by my ridiculous and fruitless attempts -just leave -it's easy -your life will go on, you'll be ok. I promise I'm not trying intentionally to do anything but make jokes.

If you want a serious thread find a lawyer to run it.

Re: Official "Submit your counterfeit claim to Gibson" thread!!!!!

Agreed!

You're clearly having a bit of innocent and creative fun, but some people apparently can't take a joke or just go with the flow.

Too many tight panties in the room...people getting offended for no reason (no, the guitar industry is not going to fall apart because of this thread and your mom still loves you)...yet they keep coming back

In the end, this is your own thread. Do what you want with it! Who's to say Gibson's recent re-framing of their infringement narrative wasn't due in part to your submissions, as outlandish as they are?

:beerchug:

Re: Official "Submit your counterfeit claim to Gibson" thread!!!!!

Even though I’m still a Gibson fan, I’m not a fan of their recent tactics.
I still however, find this thread very entertaining.
I approve...carry on.
That is all....

Can’t wait to see the 2020 Gibson line.

Re: Official "Submit your counterfeit claim to Gibson" thread!!!!!

It's actually a Fender...they call it the "Troublemaker" Telecaster Deluxe

From MusicRadar:

"The Big F's marketing bods must be chuckling at the serendipity that - in the year Fender launches the Les Paul-aping Troublemaker Tele - Gibson has opted not to showcase at NAMM, in favour of the Vegas-based Consumer Electronics Show earlier in the month."

and

"Fender says the Shawbucker-equipped Troublemaker is designed to "raise a little hell", suggesting that stirring up a little attention, they picture players channeling a little of the rock iconography associated with its Les Paul inspiration."

P.S. - The real version doesn't say "Gibson" on the headstock, that was just me messin' around ;)

Re: Official "Submit your counterfeit claim to Gibson" thread!!!!!

Re: Official "Submit your counterfeit claim to Gibson" thread!!!!!

A United States guitar. Well, Gibson would never win that lawsuit. Can you trademark a borderline?

Re: Official "Submit your counterfeit claim to Gibson" thread!!!!!

Yeah, I posted that more to wish them a Happy 4th -not really a counterfeit or infringement suggestion -perhaps more of laughing at this guitar as "innovation"

Plus thats a Confederate Flag guitar and they're really a bunch of dudes from Michigan and New York that relocated for the labor savings, and thereby just co-opting (infringing) on rebel culture.... :lmao:

I bet Francis Hopkinson and Betsy Ross have a bone to pick with those Gibson fellas.

Re: Official "Submit your counterfeit claim to Gibson" thread!!!!!

Only 29 stars/states. Whose flag is that?

You know, for the majority of the flags existence, this type of incomplete representation or utilitarian use of the flag was considered disrespectful and unacceptable -Just a guess, but perhaps because US soldier deaths has been extremely low since 1971 (50 years and almost 3 generations), while the population has increased enormously -People aren't knowing the death and personal connection to war like in the past to be offended by non traditional usage of the flag to overt ways.

Now patriots wear US flag underwear... :lmao:

PLEASE NOBODY RESPOND WITH OVERT POLITICS

I was thinking that it goes against 'flag code' to have have an incomplete representation of the flag. I don't think that is a thing anymore.
