OFR bridge verses FU's version?

I am getting back on track with my build, finely after a much to long a period of time. I just bot a good drill press off craigslist, and have gotten it adjusted and dialed in, and am finishing the building of my thickness sander. This brings me back to contemplating which bridge I am going to use. It will be either an OFR or FU's version of it. When you start comparing the OFR and upgrading it, or the OFR Custom to a comparable FU bridge you're in the same price range. The FU I believe may be a little less. Has any one here had any experience with FU's bridges?:scratchch
Any thoughts and/or comment are greatly appreciated.

Well the stock FU one is just a re-badged Gotoh licensed Floyd Rose with an FU Tone big brass block. Save your money and buy a Gotoh branded one, better than an OFR, and cheaper too. The big brass block doesn't make a huge difference in this instance as the stock Gotoh block is brass too.

So what do you like about the Goto over the Floyd other that the price? The stock block on the OFR is also brass that is chrome plated, but it's only 5/16" thick. The big block is 1/2" thick. I am going with either gold or chrome, with a 42mm big block and stainless screws.

Between the OFR and the FU or (Gotoh) model it's really a matter of preference. They both are quality top notch trems. I do think one difference is the Gotoh trem has the fine tuners a bit further back then a OFR which people would complain about them being in the way but I don't have that issue with my OFR.

If you go Gotoh, then why not pick the Original Edge or LoPro Edge (yep alsl their rebadged stuff)?

I prefer Gotoh. I also don't mind those graphtech floyd rose trems/

Gotoh has locking studs, which is a nice little bonus; and the straight knife edge allows for greater tolerance of stud spacing.

Gotoh has the locking studs, the straight knife edge, and a lower profile whale tale for the fine tuners. Also the price is a little cheaper than an OFR typically. I'd go the Gotoh, and upgrade the brass block to a thicker one if you really must. I reviewed the FU-Tone brass block some time back, and against the stock Gotoh one there was only a subtle difference in tone and sustain, etc. The upgraded brass blocks make a much bigger difference on bridges like the Ibanez Edge, which have their parts made from pot metal alloys.

I have a Gotoh on my Music Man and it's absolutely fantastic. I'd recommend one highly.

I think you can't make a bad choice between the Gotoh and the OFR. I'd pick the former for a smoother, fatter tone with a hint of vowel and a modern vibe, or the latter for its sting and "strictly 80s" vibe. I would expect less tonal difference between the two when fitted with a big block.

Do the two use the same routs? I've used Floyds for years, it's what I'm used to. I would like to give a Goto a try but I'm not sure I want to on this build. One thing I don't like about the newer arm mount on the Floyds is the slop. But I like how easy it is to adjust. With the way that FU talks about "there" bridges you would think that they were making them or at least having them made to there own spec's and not just some one else's bridge with there name on it.

I also prefer the Gotoh Floyd but disagree on the negligible difference of the big block. Granted the Gotoh has a Brass block from stock but once I swapped it for a FU Big Block the tone was WAY fuller, although I must say that it was more on the benefit of bass and against the highs, so you might want to take that EQ-difference into account.

Thanks for the input everyone. I do appreciate it. I put a FU big block on my 82/83 Floyd and I was hard pressed to tell much of a difference. They are both 42mm. The stock one is .316" thick, made of brass and chrome plated. The FU one is .501" thick, made of brass and non plated. I may put the stock one in to see if I can hear a difference now. I have been interested in trying the vintage springs and a brass claw.

I like the snap and twang of the OFR. It's a little more like the bite of a really good Strat.
