OFR/Edge swap question

Anyone know how much reworking will be required to fit an original edge into a JT580LP hole? An OFR supposedly goes right in with no problems, the edge is supposed to go right into an OFR hole.

Has anyone done this? Or maybe can someone with an edge and a JT580LP or OFR do a quick eyeball for me?

Re: OFR/Edge swap question

An OFR baseplate is a bit smaller in surface area, so it's a direct fit into a TRS style cavity. To get an Edge/Lo Pro to fit, there's some routing involved: http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/trs2lopro.htm. Mainly the bottom areas of the wings - they go further out on an Edge.

Also, if you're going to use locking studs, you have to replace the inserts too, since the OFR/TRS style ones don't have a bottom, whereas the Edge ones do, so the set screw in the stud has a firm place to lock against.

The tutorial suggests that the Edge inserts have a bigger diameter, necessitating re-drilling of holes so they fit.

Re: OFR/Edge swap question

Thanks dude! I've decided I'm just gonna get an OFR from a forum bro.

If anyone is looking for a black edge there's one on the bay right now that isn't bidded super ridiculous, yet.

Re: OFR/Edge swap question

I totally dig Edge bridges, but have not had the best luck retrofitting one into a cavity routed for a TRS.

As far as I understand, the Gotoh high stability trem is the best retrofit to replace TRS, Edge, or OFR bridges. The Edge has a slightly bigger baseplate than an OFR, and thicker too. My main problem with the retrofit is the corner of the Edge bridge touching the wood on my guitars that have only a partially recessed trem.

I would think the Gotoh would fit well in a JT580LP cavity.
