Oh Man, It's Gone Now

just when i decided to keep my jvm it sold on ebay. crap, but oh well. that's what i need to do. 100 watt head is too much for me for at least 2 years. oh well, such is life.

Re: Oh Man, It's Gone Now

100w is probably more than you will ever need. i think youll be happier with something smaller

Re: Oh Man, It's Gone Now

from what i've heard, the engle is spectacular. amazing cleans and great overdrive/distortion. i was suprised to see so many people using it for blues. i always thought of them as like shred metal amps, but they're far more versatile than i expected.

it's in the same price range as the mesa, but i'll probably go with the mesa because it has the 5 watt mode... it's the 5:50 by the way. that's the only one i really bonded with. i really like the stiletto because it's a truly great sounding amp, but though it sounds so ****ed good, it's not really my sound. that's something i had to learn the hard way through all this trial and error.

and yes, 100 watts is a LOT of power. dropping down to 50 is much more appropriate for my applications. if i need to get bigger gigs, then i'll get the extension cab. after a few years the marshall of my dreams will come ;)

Re: Oh Man, It's Gone Now

Sorry to hear that. I just got finished crankin mine and jamming out in the kitchen. I'm now sitting here with cottonballs in my ears to absorb the blood from the visciousness of cranking the hell out of it.:)

Re: Oh Man, It's Gone Now

hah after all that singing of praise for the JVM you sold it

ridiculous

told you it was stale :)

hell no, there's nothing wrong with the sound. but like i learned the hard way, you have to go with what works for you and not what you think is the best. marshall is still the best i've heard - when cranked.

Re: Oh Man, It's Gone Now

when i finally convinced myself that i should keep it, i went to end the auction and found that it had been sold. now i'm feeling kind of weird about it, so i know i'm going to GAS for it until i finally get one again. what a great amp. i can't say enough good things about it. farewell jvm

Re: Oh Man, It's Gone Now

actually, surprisingly, i made $280 on the sale since i only paid $1400 for the head and $270 for the cab brand new.

Re: Oh Man, It's Gone Now

IMO 100 watts would be good for MSG and thats about it. I like having lower wattage amps onstage so I can crank them. For most clubs 20 watt tube is PLENTY. My 40 watt amp can't even be cranked if I want to have everything nice and balanced at some of the little clubs I play at. That's where pedals come in. Thing with my 40 watt amp (main gigging amp) it's a Tweed style Fender. So those have a fairly low breakup level compared to amps of later Fender (blackface etc) and they also sound godly at any volume level (I play mainly clean as well). I'm guessing you play metal or hard rock type stuff so having the amp cranked up is important for thick tones. You will definitely be happier with something thats in the 50 watt range. Good luck with your decision!

Re: Oh Man, It's Gone Now

One compromise option: used Marshall DSL50 combo or head. -That'll get you a Marshall sound with a smaller footprint. Cheap too. If you're one of those weird "I don't do secondhand" types you culd probably still find new stock out there, too.

I'll bet you'll still need an attenuator, though. But you could get one with the cash you'll save and still have money for recording equipment.

Re: Oh Man, It's Gone Now

Nice work, man. A cool amp, for sure, but definitely much more than you need for what you're doing right now. Glad you came out ahead on the deal, too.
