Oh my ..

Yea .. I need an amp. I need a frikken amp .. I just dont know where to look. I was thinking a Marshall MG100dfx but, it doesnt seem versatile enough for me. I wanna pull some massive Pantera like sound and still be able to get some decent moderate sound for softer stuff for Avenged stuff say.

I dont know if this can be achieved or maybe I ask for too much but yea ... I'm kind of desperate. I'd be able to spit 700$ canadian and that's pushing it.

I was looking towards Krank stuff (revolution is sexy), Bogner (Ubershall is hot .. hmm), and the Mesa/boogie dual rectifier (really nice). If used/new heads with or without cabs are too much. Some kind of combo of one of the ones named above?

There's no shop around here with any of these brands, I cant try them out myself. Anyone own one and knows if one of these can achieve my needs, please stab me.

Sorry for not being too clear too. :smack:

Re: Oh my ..

I don't wanna rain on any parades or anything, but there's little to no chance that you could get any one of those amps for $700 Canadian. Especially in a combo...It just wouldn't happen. They all retail in the $1500+ USD range just for the heads.

I would suggest however, that you check out a used Peavey 5150 combo. You might be able to pick one up around your price range.

Re: Oh my ..

Dont buy what thing? I named three. :laugh2:

But really, explanations and reasons from people who are experienced in either of those three amps would be much appreciated guys.

Re: Oh my ..

If you only have that kind of budget you might as well froget it for the momment.

You need to double that budget before you start looking to be honest.

Re: Oh my ..

If you're willing to save a bit more, grabbin a Revolution 1, Dual Rectifier, or an Uberschall would definitely make for a kickass rig.

However, at your current budget (which is about $592.36 USD) there's no way you'll be able to afford any of them. Revolution 1's typically go for around $1000 USD on ebay. Dual rectifiers go for upwards of $1000 USD, and Uberschalls go for upwards of $2100 USD.

$1000 USD is about $1181.70 CAD.

Remember, those prices are used, and for the heads only. A combo's gonna be a bit more.

Having said that, they're all fantastic amps, and definitely worth the money.

Like I said though, If you can't swing that extra cash, your best bet for what you're looking for is a used Peavey 5150 combo. If you're lucky you can find one for a little over $400 USD, and they're great amps.

Lucky is a key word.

I contacted every large guitar store in the united states and was not able to find a 5150 combo for less than $600 in working condition. (I did find one for $450 but it was sold the day it was listed...)

The last few I tried to get on ebay hit $700.

That's why I said **** it and got the 6505 halfstack to cheer me up lol.

You can probably find a 5150 head for around $600 then get a nice cab for around $300.

Re: Oh my ..

Way too many people that I know have been disappointed with those Marshall MG amps. . . I'd say you should save up for what you really want, buy it, and be happy.

Re: Oh my ..

Wow am I ever stupid. I totally forget I'm being offered a new position at my job. I'll work a few hours Saturday and Sunday in the morning. I'm sure I can pull a good amount of money per month with that. Let me just check out how much.

I'm leaning towards the dual rectifier, I dont know why .. maybe because of all the shiny knobs! Even if the Ubershall is .. :smokin:

Anyway thanks to you dudes for the posts! It helps out a ton, specialy knowing now that the MG isnt going to be my cup of tea. Hehe.

Re: Oh my ..

Didn't Dime use a solid state while he was with Pantera?
I would go for tubes for any style... but here maybe a Solid State can do the trick... or a Vox Valvetronix...

Re: Oh my ..

Hmm, I need alot of power guys .. But what would a used single rec be worth? And bleh to solid state .. Lol.

Re: Oh my ..

I'm talking about the price. But the single rectifer has 2 channels while the dual has three, right? Hmm ..

Don't let 50 watts of pure tube fool you...trust me. You could probably get a single rec used for a good deal. Check out ebay and see how much they have gone for in the past week or so.

Yes, I believe that is the case. Do you need three channels? Given your price limitations, you may not have the luxury of requiring certain features, bells or whistles. Still, there are three levels of gain on the Single Rec, and unless you're playing Madison Square Garden soon, you should have plenty of power from this fifty-watter.
