Re: ohm

Since I'm studying to become an electrician, I can fill you in on this ;)

"Ohms" are the units of measure of resistance. They resist the flow of current (otherwise known as amps or amperes).

What you're looking at when you see the back of an amp head is what ohms, the impedance of the head supports for the speakers in a cabinet. Impedance can be measured in ohms as well. Impedance is the measurement of the total opposition of current. It includes both resistance and reactance (which is caused by inductance and capacitance).

IIRC, Marshalls most common seem to be 8 ohms. What you choose for speakers from Avatar is up to your taste, but always make sure that the total ohms of the speaker cabinet match the head and that _speaker wire_ is used to connect the two (not regular guitar cables).

Re: ohm

The marshall should have a selector switch on the back allowing you to select 4/8/16 ohm impedence levels, get the avatar cabinet rated at 8 ohms (two 16 ohm speakers wired in parallel). Plug the cabinet in, set the amps output impedence at 8 ohms and your ready to rock...... in the future if you get a second 8 ohm cabinet you'll need to select a 4 ohm impedence if you run them in parallel (using the second speaker jack on the amp or plugging one cabinet into the other - avatars come with two speaker jacks on the back for running an extension cabinet). Hope this helps.
