Once you get that BBQ in there post some new videos on your site. I have a video of a LP with a BBQ running through a "Kotch". Sounded freaking killer. Different axe and amp, but perfect tone was there. Doesn't Dave have a BBQ in his Strat that he runs through his Splawn? Where'd ya pickup the BBQ?

dave who?

I got it from scott splawn...called him up to ask him a bunch of questions (as I sometimes do..lol) about pups and whatnot..and just went with the BBQ

You're a nut...LOL. You shoulda waited until you got the 250k pot. IMO, you should still try that first and then go from there. The JB with a 250k pot in an alder body, maple/rosewood neck will sound really nice.

I know...oftentimes I'll present two options on a board for people to give opinions on, then I'll go with my hidden option three on the sly...LMFAO....

this is me, man...I'm all over the place with stuff..hahah..

I might still try the pot idea if the BBQ doesn't pan out for me..who knows, maybe the BBQ is like a JB with a 250k pot ;)

LMFAO, you sound like me not too long ago. I kept tossing ideas back and forth on two of my guitars. Thing is I didn't bring them up much, if at all, here. My wife kept saying "you're never happy with them are you?"....LOL. Well, no, not until now anyway. I eventually just went with what I really wanted and that was that. My guitars are set now. If anything, I *might* get a PGn for the LP. The Strat and Frankenstrat are set, so is the Kramer. BUT, since I now have 2 complete pickguards with different configurations for the Strat, I can swap them at will. ;) Right now it's an Air Zone / PAF combo. Sounds killer.

hey, it happens, right? u know us guitar players..always messin' around with stuff..lol

I might put the JB in my ash mirage..I have a CC in there now..but I've been curious what it would sound like in a guitar that's got more on the bass end...ash has more lows than alder...

BUT, first thing's first...the BBQ in the lynch..lmao

If you do put the JB in the Mirage, definitely go with a 250k pot. Ash may have more low end, but it has more highs too. You'll want the 250k to tame the those high-mids that everyone complains about.

A BBQ for Lynch....LMFAO!!! Ribs anyone? :D

yeah, that's true...hadn't thought of that...maybe I'll stay away...LOL...I like the CC in there....enough to be my main axe? not sure yet..haven't gotten to play it thorugh the quick rod at gig volume..it does have a spongier high end, but the mids are VERY growly (which I love) and the higs are smooth..which I also love...I think it'll be more percussive at higher volumes..so maybe I'll stick with that...heheheh...and the string separation is great!

hehhe..mr. scary's house of ribs....hahahhaahh

I say keep the CC. I've got it in 2 guitars and it's not goin' anywhere. I've a JB in the Frankenstrat (alder) but I prefer the CC there.

Now you just need the custom bones guitar he had with a BBQ in it then it could really be called the BBQ Ribs Lynch. :laugh2:

I think the CC's gonna stay...if I dig the BBQ that much, i might try to put one in there, BUt I kinda like the idea of having the CC be my vintate paf type of tone, ya know?

I love that guitar! but it doesnt' look very comfy if you wanted to sit down and play..lol..probably one of the crossbones would hit ya in the yam bag!

I hear ya. The CC has that cool PAFish vibe to it, only hotter. And it's funny because it's not wound like a PAF at all really, has different wire, but the combination of how it is wound and the A2 mag just make it so sweet.

I like that guitar too but I'd rather have one like yours. That's always been my favorite one of his, but with the older ESP headstock.

I think the skulls n snakes is one of the sexiest guitars I've seen...and not just cause I own one....but yeah, maybe just a little biased ;)

I think his original haji had th eheadstock like on my mirage...so that's probably what you're talki'n about if I'm not mistaken..I dno't knwo why he went to the one that's there now....not that I don't like it..I'm a sucker for reversed headstocks =D

I also really like the purple tiger!!

Re: ok, a custom or a jb with a 250k pot??

Shredder, what year is your Mirage? Mine is a mint 1988 with the old pointy head stock, pre-Jackson lawsuit. In a peach finish.

Re: ok, a custom or a jb with a 250k pot??

Using 250K pots with the JB will get rid of what you're calling an upper mid spike.

250K pots will also allow a fair amount of treble to bleed out of the circuit and you'll lose some of that aggressivness you seem to like.

Alot of players here love the Custom Custom and most use it with 500K pots...I'm one of them. But some players have mentioned that even with 500K pots, they wouldn't mind if the Custom Custom had a little more treble and sounded brighter.

I have three identical single bridge humbucker Strats that I use as test guitars and I have a Custom Custom in one with a 500K pot.

When I compared that guitar to a Strat with a JB with 250K pots, the JB with 250K pots pots had less treble than the Custom Custom with 500K pots!

So just a heads up: if you go with 250K pots to remove what you're calling a upper mid spike, you may lose more treble than you want to lose.

Or, you may love it! I guess you should experiment and see for yourself what works for you...try them both.

Re: ok, a custom or a jb with a 250k pot??

Ya know what, Lew. Reading that, especially the part about the two Strat comparison (JB vs. CC) for the, oh I don't know how many times in other posts, lost count..LOL, I wonder if a 300k pot would still take out the upper mid spike of the JB but not so much treble. Your thoughts? Do you think it would put the treble on the same plane as the CC or closer?

not quite sure what year..I got it off of evil bay for a good price...it's got the same type of headstock as in that lynch pick ErikH posted..

maybe I could tell from the serial number?

thanks for the info, man! very helpful..I've also heard that it can make it a little mushy on the low end when you use 250k pots..that may be because the loss of treble detail?

anywho, I got a BBQ on the way..hopefully that'll be the end for me..lol

Re: ok, a custom or a jb with a 250k pot??

Lew-

With an all maple neck/body and ebony fretboard guitar, would a JB with a 250k pot work well? Perhaps the 250k pot would keep the JB from being extremely bright in my bright axe and keep it a little cooled off from being ear piercing? I love every clip I hear of the JB and my ESP Mirage is the only guitar I am looking to swap out pups on.

Thanks a bunch. Shredder, sorry for stealing the thread for a second... lol

Sure! 250K, 300K or 500K. You should experiment. The 250K will definately take some of the bite out of a JB in all maple guitar...or a guitar from any wood. All maple solid body guitars can be pretty "bright" sounding. Good for basses...not my favorite for guitars.
