Ok, Celestion needs to revamp the Tone Selector

It's freakin useless.

In order to tell how speakers compare, they need to make the speakers the only activly changing factor. You can't play ten different riffs through ten different amps with ten different guitars and expect anyone to be able to tell a difference.

I know this is a little bit of a rant, but tell me I'm wrong.:banghead:

"You're wrong." :D

(Well, you DID ask me to do it.)

I agree. I annoy guitar salesmen to no end, because when I am comparing gear, I play the same licks repeatedly. Seems pointless to compare similar gear with dissimilar licks.

Re: Ok, Celestion needs to revamp the Tone Selector

Not only are they different guitars but different amps you can't compare a VOX with blues to a marshall stack with Vintage 30's and think that the speakers show the difference between jazzy clean and full own drive!

Re: Ok, Celestion needs to revamp the Tone Selector

I don't see how hard it would be for them to play 1 lick on a amp that pushes to like 8 different speakers which are each mic'ed independantly.

I DO however beleive that both ways are essintial. The one I mention here for hearing the voicing and responce differences..but Also I think it's helpful to also play different riffs that you would typically play on each speaker so you can hear where they shine

Re: Ok, Celestion needs to revamp the Tone Selector

I went to a guitar show a few years ago and the Celestion stand had Geoff Whitehorn demoing 3 types of speakers... all were 4 x 12 configuration, same riffs n licks, same player, same amp AND same guitar. The difference was amazing.. I just wish I had taken more notice of what was being said instead of just listening to the differences. However, it was obvious that the differences were huge... and comes down to your style of music and your amp. It's not just about the speakers either.. I recently got an old Orange 4 x 12 which has early 70's Greenbacks in, and it sounds so warm and smooth... for my classic rock band it's great. I have never been a fan of V30's as they always sounded harsh and very directional... but that was in Mesa cabs. I just got a Cornford 4 x 12 with V30's and wow... great tone and spread of sound, not at all dark like the Recto 2 x 12 or 4 x 12! So it's really a case of trying before you buy... if you really like what your amp does try it with different cabs/ speakers/ configurations.

Re: Ok, Celestion needs to revamp the Tone Selector

Have you guys used the Eminence.com sound samples? they show you just what each speaker reproduces...

though for my galaxie ten IDK if i like the Grit Beef of the 10" Ramrod or the Clean Voice of the Ragin Cajun...

I wish celestion had something like that but since Eminence has their versions of celestions on there its a good tool to decide what flavor speaker you like...
