Ok guys need some help again. sorry. I have been working on my Charvel wildcard to fix a problem on the low E string, well I routed out the guitar to drop the jb bridge humbucker, and I routed out the middle stk-4 single, and this fixed my low E problem. but now I have a hum when I use the neck pickup. the hum disappears when I touch the Floyd rose bar, bridge or strings. I have wired numerous guitars and never had this problem. i just wanted to make sure but if the hum goes away when i touch the bridge or strings its a ground problem right? if so I will undo everything and re solder all the grounds again. to give your information i have no fluorescent lights in my guitar room, and i tried 3 different cables to make sure i didn't have a bad cable.

on the upside my Charvel has never played better finally got my string height down to just over 1/32" at the 12th fret. plays great and sounds great other then the hum. i am sure its nothing major. thanks for all you guys help during this adevnture

That sounds ;) like a ground issue to me. To make sure of the problem, I'd get a voltmeter and check for continuity across all the ground points.

that's the thing that confuses me i checked with my ohm meter and the pot to bridge rang out, the pot to switch rang out, wait i didn't check the pot to ground sleeve on the jack. i will check that tomorrow. thanks ginormous

okay false alarm its not the guitar. I opened it back up rang everything out, and I mean everything. it all tested out great, but still un soldered and re-soldered every ground and I redid the pickup leads to the switch. took it back down stairs and I still have the hum. I checked another guitar that has always been fine and the hum was still there, so its either the ground in my house has gone to pot or my amp is having a problem. oh well atleast the guitar is good.

No, if the noise goes away when you touch the strings then it is grounded the way Leo intended, aka you are the shield.
