OK, let's talk openly about your pedal fetish.

Re: OK, let's talk openly about your pedal fetish.

It's also the effect most players should stay the hell away from...

What's wrong with them? :)

Regarding fuzz pedals, I used to have a damn fun Mooer Blue Faze fuzz pedal but it was way too dark/smooth through my rig.
I couldn't get any cut from it unless I tweaker my whole rig for it, and then it was amazing. But I just don't do things that way.

I'll get a couple fuzz pedals in the future, maybe a Big Muff variant and something Fuzzface-esque but brighter than what I had.

Re: OK, let's talk openly about your pedal fetish.

Which tremolo do you like best? I've always been intrigued by the MXR one, but I don't believe they make it anymore.

Yes, the MXR is discontinued.. Dunno why... ACE, what make the Tremadillo better?

Re: OK, let's talk openly about your pedal fetish.

I sold them all
I do not miss any of them.

Life got more simple and may I say useful!

Re: OK, let's talk openly about your pedal fetish.

I currently own 28 pedals, not including A/B boxes. 13 of them are OD, Distortion or boost types, 3 Chorus, 2 Phaser, a Flanger, a Delay, an EQ, Volume, Wah, Talk Box, a noise gate, a tuner and a Boss Enhancer. In addition I also have 2 Boss GX700 rack units and an Ibanez MSP1000 that has a great EQ and possibly the best compressor I've ever used.

Re: OK, let's talk openly about your pedal fetish.

I almost sold all my old and new pedals, I am keeping a few oldtimers as nothing today sounds anywhere near as good!
And besides I have my hands full of things that I make myself, and sell off when they are done!
But have most of the prototypes floating around, anyways these days I just use an echo and a two channel amp.

Don't really have the need for more, as I limit myself to testing and recording stuff for fun only.
Had a fetish for old Japanese pedals, that need dried up when I quit at CM some years back.

Re: OK, let's talk openly about your pedal fetish.

I've got a thing for terrible pedals I owned when I was in high school.

Re: OK, let's talk openly about your pedal fetish.

Overdrives. By seeking out the most definitive circuits, it's taught me a lot about how to make any particular amp have extended gain that sounds the way I want.

Klon Centaur
Ibanez TS808HW
Barber LTD.
Way Huge Green Rhino
and Red Llama.
All the fullsize Bogners
Marshall Bluesbreaker/Gov'nor II
Fulltone FD II
MXR Classic OD/Zakk
T Rex Mudhoney
Boss OD-1

That is me in a nutshell

I have over 25 different OD/Distortion/Fuzz pedals. I also have multiple chorus and delay pedals and am always on the lookout for a good flanger at a reasonable price.

I also have a bit of a brand specific thing happening where I am a sucker for Visual Sound/Truetone pedals and also a little known pedal company called TL Pedals Canada, that was based in my hometown and was offering clones and modded variants of a lot of classic and/or hard to get pedals. The builder closed his business as of Dec 31 2016, and his creations are pretty rare with no more than a few dozen examples of each pedal at best (he only completed 200 builds by the time he closed up shop); so when one pops up that I don't have yet, I grab it. I'm hoping one day to see his modded take on a Rat come up for sale to compliment the straight up clone of the original Rat I bought last fall.

Re: OK, let's talk openly about your pedal fetish.

I refuse to call what I have a fetish though... By saying that, I admit I have a problem that is out of control.

I can quit buying pedals anytime. I just like variety.

I also view the pedals I'm not using at all to be like money in the bank. At some point a guitar or amp will come along that I want and I'll trade in a bunch of pedals that have collected dust for a while.

Re: OK, let's talk openly about your pedal fetish.

I don't have many pedals. I use my amp distortion/channels for the most part. The pedals I have are just to color that. I do tend to buy Boss pedals, though.

I do want to get my hands on a tubescreamer and a rat.

Re: OK, let's talk openly about your pedal fetish.

I've gone back and forth with so many. I like having a few different overdrives on hand. These day my board is stripped down to just my wireless receiver, OCD and tuner. The less I have to worry about, the better I play and the more I enjoy it. I'm keeping what I'm not using though.

Re: OK, let's talk openly about your pedal fetish.

I did wind up selling about half of mine, and only rarely now does something catch my ear. I always thing 'oh that would be cool' and then think that I would mess around with it for a week, and then never get back to it.

I don't have an EHX problem

Haha, that's potentially me in a year or so. How do the ER Drive and Soul Food stack with the Big Muff (and with each other)?

The ERD into the Big Muff is, IMHO, pretty amazing. It's perfect for cutting through for a solo. I also like the SF into the ERD to beef it up a bit. I don't really do SF into BM since I prefer to stack the ERD.

Re: OK, let's talk openly about your pedal fetish.

WOW! Just did an inventory, my issue is with OD / Distortion pedals, here's a snapshot:
Maxon OD808
Digitech Screamin' Blues
Fulltone OCD
EHX East River Drive
Wampler Plexidrive
Keeley DS9
Fulltone Fulldrive 3
Wampler Catapulp
Xotic SL Drive
Wampler Euphoria
EHX Soul Food
Keeley modifies BOSS Blues Driver
Wampler Plextortion
BOSS DS1 Distortion

Whew! I feel much better now...

Re: OK, let's talk openly about your pedal fetish.

Spoken like a true addict...

My wife is the enabler... She doesn't get pissed at hundreds of dollars in pedals bought over a period of months... But freaks when I buy a guitar costing several hundred dollars in one shot

So, I buy pedals, and when I get enough together that are not actually being used, I trade for a guitar

She doesn't get pissed when I'm just shifting money already invested in gear from one thing to another... It's the perfect loophole. :D

This was from yesterday's pedal purge

This arrived in the mail the same day too. :fest6:

Re: OK, let's talk openly about your pedal fetish.

Too many echo / delay units. Reverbs are running neck and neck.
