Back about 10-12 years ago before the whole Drone thing, the Sunn Model T was not a popular amp- too clean probably.
Since that whole Stoner thing started, primaraly with ISIS, SUNN0))) and others, I've watched the Model T climb in price from under 500.00 backin the 90's to a little over a grand just a year or two ago.
I just happened to be checking out Model T's on fleabay and I ran across this one. Good Christ! Take a look at this! I guess I'm going to have to give up on my dream of ever owning one. This is just Nuts, in reality, no way are they worth this kin d of money.
If you are fortunate enough to own a Model T, hang onto it. Its like a goldmine and there doesn't appear to be any signs of it slowing down.;

this thread reminds me of all the old Georgia blues guitar guys i meet every other day at my shop that tell me about the 50-something Les Paul they sold for less than a hundred bucks.

things are only worth what people will pay for them. you say they're not worth that kind of money...tell that to the dude that just bought one hahaha

IDK, you might see that one relisted....looks like some heavy shill-bidder activity goin on.....

but EP's got a point you see all kinds of stuff going for way more than its "worth" :
...LP Classics selling for $1600+ and beat Studios for $1000

Re: Ok, now this is absurd..Model T content

Gee, my drummer has had one sitting in his basement, been there for years-
in the storage closet, we drag it out every year to 2 just to turn it on and let it warm up.
....maybe I should make it disappear.......

Thanks you for pointing that out. I took a look and its defintely being shill bid up.
Thats a relief..I think 1400.00 on a nice T-Top would be absolute top dollar and you could still get one for less.

I bought my 200S, which is about half a T-top I think, for 450.00 a couple years ago, and they have go up about close to double that. Mine has the old Dynaco hi-Fi transformers, which I am not certain of the T-tops do. Those huge old Dynaco MKIII trannys are awesome.

just a 1/2 yr ago they were going for about a grand for a 40yr old amp. for a good amp a grand is a great price!! art and fashion and trends are never as good as investment as stocks are lol :beerchug:

Real stoners don't buy "stoner amps" and don't listen to "stoner music, overpaying for vintage Orange and Sunn amps, Big Muffs, and SG's!"

Only bright eyed college boys, enamoured by a new style of music called "stoner." They think Nirvana is "old school."

^ as a real stoner that's got everything but the vintage Orange, i disagree with you.

i use a vintage Bassman tho so um yeah.

Re: Ok, now this is absurd..Model T content

and the 'stoner' bands out now are way closer to the classic rock bands you tote than anything else that's come out since 1999.

you oughta like...listen to some music.

448 mopre posts and Ima gonna get drunk like you never seen celebaatin the great Gearjonsers 25 thousandth!

Kurt Cobain said more with mangled power chords than someone like Vai ever could...At least for me anyways. Not that Nirvana is Old School. But they will be soon enough to kids who were not alive when Kurt was are picking up the guitar...

While I agree with GJ'er on the dynamic of hispter types who latch onto a certain nitch of gear. It does not just limit itself to stoner rock.

Metal: 24 frets and floyds that never get used enough to warrant them. Amps with too many knobs when all they do is scoop the mids and max the gain.

I could pick out the stereotype in each genre. Troll each forum at TGP and see different hyped pieces of gear that really are not too great. The point is...There are plenty of posers out there regardless.

Stoner Rock bands got far more from The Melvins than they did from Nirvana.

Re: Ok, now this is absurd..Model T content

^ yeah but Nirvana was trying to sound like the Melvins too so when people hear modern stoner rock and they only know about music that Clear Channel lets them know about, their mind goes right to Kurt.

Uh, what the hell does Nirvana have to do with this thread topic??? Ugh.

Stoner/Doom can be played on almost anything, the reason people use the T is that it WAS a cheap, really loud amp, lol. If they could afford it they would be using Hiwatts or something. Last I knew Aaron Turner was using a Fryette amp. There was a craze for the Coliseum's for a while too, probably because everyone (Coliseum, Breather Resist/Young Widows, Lords) from Louisville was using them, but I think that died down.

Ampeg V4's and Peavey Butchers are next, you watch.

I traded my half-stack to a friend for a Sovtek Mig60 and 3 bills, friend price. I then sold the Mig for another 300.

The cost of "vintage" equipment is now and always has been a simple case of supply and demand...

If there is more demand for an item than there is a supply of it to go around only the guys with the most money to spend on it will get it...
