OK - seriously thinking powered speakers for the band

Re: OK - seriously thinking powered speakers for the band

I got 3 powered 15'' off-brand speakers and a nice top shelf type mixer, it works for me! very versatile and lightweight. I bought it a year ago. sometimes I need only one speaker for my electronic drums or for a small jam and its nice that way. I doubt Ill have any probs with it, cheaper than the other way around. speakers were on sale for like $350 each.

$350
That's the range of my Carvins new
Alto and Kustom make some stupidly cheap powered speakers
I don't know if I'd want them though

I guess that's my question. It's always my question:

What is the best performer for the price? Min price that delivers bar tour performance.

Re: OK - seriously thinking powered speakers for the band

curious why you say that dave? i know a few people who love their bose stuff. dont think it would suit acebobs band but for less bombastic stuff they seem to work fine. i have never owned one, nor will i since i already have way more pa stuff than i should

They work well for a single or duo. They get completely lost with a band or more than 2 musicians. Never heard one where everything was clear (with a band). Also, they are way overpriced (like most Bose stuff).

Re: OK - seriously thinking powered speakers for the band

id agree with all that. ive never heard them in a full band context where they sounded as i would like the pa to sound. solo/duo or all acoustic stuff they have always sounded fine. bose is pricey but ive found most of their stuff (granted im not buying anything that expensive) is high quality in sound and build.

We used Bose once - not doing it again.

Re: OK - seriously thinking powered speakers for the band

I used to run sound for my ex's band fairly frequently and their bassist had one of those Bose stacks. It was ok when it was just her bass, but one time she insisted on running everyone through it (3 vocals, guitar, bass, fiddle, mandolin, banjo). It sounded sooooo bad.

Thanks for clarifying!! Its always been my impression/limited experience, that Bose stuff is supposed to be the be all, end all. BUT... Again not had this type of exposure and do know they are wicked expensive.

Edit: Read rest of posts.. Wow! Suprised.... Again, always been quite impressed with Bose stuff, but as I said, never used in this capacity
