ok so a couple of tube related questions -help

so i got a couple of unmarked tubes from my youth pastor (the same one that lent me his blonde bandmaster - a nice guy right?) and i installed them in my amp. the only thing they say is 12ax7A and it goes about a diameter (so halfway) across the tube and it only gets 12 on one line, AX on the next line and 7A on the next line so the letters are pretty honkin big. anyone know the brand these could be.i can take pictures if needed. read on for more info

i love what they do to my guild maverick amp. with these in V1 and V2 with a shaguan 9th gen in V3 (that's all there is for pre tubes) and Ruby EL34s in the two power tube spots, they really throw down. they lowered the headroom A LOT. and i really like it. i used to only play with cleans and fuzz but they make the distortion sound so much better, expecially with pedals. my RPG octavia kills through this thing!!!

question: if they lower the headroom substiantally, does that make them higher gain?

so to recap the questions ( i know, i got side tracked :D), can anyone tell me what tubes they might be off the limited info i gave ( i know, prolly not) and are they high gain or low gain if they reduce headroom (i'[m gonna go with high gain as that seems to be the obvious answer. but it might be a trick???

and should i get a different V3 tube. i hear that shagaungs really sound better with higher gain amps like a boogie ( i think i heard that from GJ), adn that's where they came from...left over from my boogie nomad. but i'm wondering if i should maybe look into a tung sol 12ax7 or something. the thing is V3 doesn't have that much effect from what i understand and i'm happy with the sound so i guess i should stay with the same tube but i can always switch back. oh yeah and v3 is the last pre tube so that's prolly the phase inverter and this shaguang doesn't have matched triodes....so maybe? idk

whew that was long (that's what she said :D)

the 12AX7A sounds like it might be a JAN to me, but I would not guess further than that withough a pic

offhand, I can't comment on V3 in that circuit ... if it's not critical to the circuit, then you can use almost any 'serviceable' 12Ax7 tube

you might review the chart on this page, although keep in mind that it's for a blackface with trem & reverb circuit

i swear to god i'm half retarted sometimes. look at that original post...i'm surprised you two could get any sense out of that

yeah what a tard. P90's in Strats? Pffeh!

almost as absurd as tubes in amps.
