Ok So lets talk about amp control.

Hello all,
I've been considering a new amp for a few years now. I'm completely happy with my current amp but want something different due to the fact I would like to start playing more Classic rock stuff along with Metal.
Yes I can get there with Pedals I know but I much prefer Amp gain over pedal gain any day of the week.
So I started looking at 3 channel amps and some have Midi so control isn't an issue but then the ones that use a 1/4 stereo jack will require some 3rd party control.
I use currently a Boss GT100 as my floor controller and I just use 2 channels of my amp which technically is only 2 with a volume boost for Solos. I build Patches in the Gt100 to increase volume and get around the fact that it only has a mono out 1/4 jack amp control.
So what are you 3 or more channel amps guys using? I saw a Midi to Stereo 1/4 jack converter but I can't seem to find it. Who makes one? Basically you have a Midi controller telling the stereo 1/4 what to change to. So if you have a 3 channel amp , you can switch all 3 channels and change your effects etc all with one button press.
Some of the amps I want to try out don't have any other ability of control. I don't like Pedal dancing and changing amp channels and pedals manually.
Boss Released a new ES-5 switcher for your pedals which is pretty damn awesome but still only has from what I can see 1/4 mono out amp control.

TC electronics G system has stereo out so technically you can change all 3 channels but I feel thats an incomplete Solution. I may go down that road anyway as I would like to hear how good it sounds. It's kinda cool you can use your own boost OD distortion type's in front of it , control them etc with the Loops then control your amp etc with building patches. But no expression or Volume pedal which I feel hurts this unit IMO.
I would like to see TC Electronics build a GT100 like product . The G system is very close they just need to add to it.

Ummm, this is not the way to even get close to classic rock sounds. You'll need two amps, one for metal and one for classic rock. They will not be anything alike, believe me.

Re: Ok So lets talk about amp control.

The Tri-Axis can do it, as well as the Tech 21 PSA-1, which is a midi controlled preamp that gets a ton of great sounds. For a traditional amp, you might have to specify a price point. Most amps specialize a particular style, but the Mesa Mark series can get a lot of tones from clean to classic rock and metal from the different modes and channels.

Re: Ok So lets talk about amp control.

The Fractal FX8 is also an option to consider, it's got midi & relay switching and chances are it integrates easier with most amps than the Gsystem. I forgot if they had a i-mod version of the gsystem out like th nova system & delay pedal. But yeah, definitely research the FX8 abit.

Re: Ok So lets talk about amp control.

It really depends on how much you want to spend. You can build a dream that will do everything you want, but it's gonna cost you. Or you can build a lesser rig that can do most of what you want.

I use a Randall RM100. It's all tube, midi controlled, and has removable preamps based on different amps. I use a clean, regular Randall preamp, and a Plexi preamp. Classic rock to metal. You can find them on ebay or used section on guitarcenter.com
