OK, this guitar has got me stumped...

I've posted before about this Signature Odyssey guitar that I have...came stock with Evans pickups. The bridge was thin sounding, low output. I wanted something hotter with more mids. A C5 came close, but not enough high (or low) end. Then I put in the Steve's Special, same thing: a little better than the C5 (though quite similar) but still not enough high end. I'm coming to the conclusion that this must be a very dark sounding guitar, if anything a very MID heavy guitar. I believe it's alder body with maple cap, oak neck with ebony fretboard. Weird combination, what? I like the 'open-ness' of the original Evans with the highs and lows, but it lacked mids and it wasn't hot enough to match my other guitars. If I could put a stronger magnet in the Evans I'd give that a try to boost mids and output, but it's one of those completely sealed pickups, doesn't look like you could open it up, plus I think a ceramic mag might take the already piercing highs over the top. I'm running out of pickups to try, plus I've already ruined two pickups by drilling holes in the baseplate because the pickups in this guitar are direct mounted. ANy suggestions?

The only thing that I can think of that might work is the Screamin Demon with 12 fillisters. It won't have as much low end push as the C5, but it is more open and has more bite.

Are you sure the bridge pup isn't out of phase? I know that sounds obvious, but....

That would only really change things in the middle position, and even then, two pickups out of phase will remove mids and result in a brighter sound.

Or am I wrong?

No, the pup isn't out of phase. And yes, it is a 500K pot. Should I try a 1 meg pot maybe?
