Okay I got a stupid question...

Big Mike Blues

A friend gave me an 80's vintage 59 bridge.
This thing seems to have more output and balls than the more recent ones I've purchased. Sounds awesome.

59's have always been my go to, favorite from SD. Sometimes with a magnet change.

Is there really a difference between a new one and the old, what's the diff, and can they be recreated?

Thanks and sorry if this is old hat. My search -fu is not that great and I couldn't find anthing.

:thanks:

Re: Okay I got a stupid question...

I had many 59s and there's no difference, although the age is obviously different (baseplate style, stickers etc).

Re: Okay I got a stupid question...

Hmm. Must just be the guitar I guess.

What about JB's Someone suggested those were different as well??

Re: Okay I got a stupid question...

The differences, if any, would probably lie in the particular batchs of the parts p'ups are made of, baseplates, keepers, screws, slugs, covers and the most influential of all of them: the magnet, through the years.

HTH,

...the magnet...

This. For two reasons.
1) As LtKojak points out, magnets vary from batch to batch.
2) The magnet in the donated Eighties' model '59 may not even be the original.

Interesting.

Well I have to believe it's stock. The friend that gave it to me bought it new and said he never modified it, doesn't look as such either.

Cool thanks for the info guys.

Re: Okay I got a stupid question...

Nah but I've put them in probably 30 guitars in my life. Used to work retail and did a lot of guitar repairs.

This one just 'feels' hotter. Not sure why. Whatev.

I hear a lot of hype on old JB vs New JB, wondered if there was a 59 difference.
Someone said winding pattern was different on old JBs...<shrug>
