I thought that there were enough Duncan Designed MH101-CR mini-humbuckers in the field by now that someone has opened a conversation about them, but a search here turns up bupkis.

Does anyone have any experience with them? Comments?

Better yet, has anyone autopsied one to see what kind of magnet is in there?

They're coming out in some kind of customized Squire Tele, I think....

Ok, resurrecting dead thread, but I am about to take one of these out of said Vintage Modified telecaster and will report what I can find without destroying it. Pickup sounds decent, but lacks clarity I think.

How much of that lack of clarity is down to the pickup itself and how much to the host guitar? :scratchch

I think most of it comes down to the pickup, not the guitar itself. If I replaced this "Duncan Designed" pickup with an actual Seymour Duncan pickup, same guitar, I'd say the real SD is going to sound more clear. Its all subjective really. But in a budget guitar, you get budget pickups and how good they sound is not their first consideration...manufacturing cost is.

Epiphone pickups can often be referred to as mudbuckers - they are just cheap implementations. Duncan Designed are probably a step up from there and then SDs are really great pickups.

GFS seems to break the mold about good pickups being expensive, but I have never tried those and compared them to cheap knockoffs. I am merely going by a number of reviews I have read and/or heard about.

BTW, the guitar is apart and I am in the process of swapping out pickups. Might be a couple days to get to it as I have time.
