Okay... sell me on the Invader

Re: Okay... sell me on the Invader

I took a C5 and swapped invader mags in it along with a spacer to get the fitment right.

That was a cool sounding pickup!

I've got an 83 Schecter PT loaded with:

DiMarzio Dual Sound (Neck), Measures 13.50 / 7.51 split
Seymour Duncan Invader (Bridge), Measures 16.10 / 8.49 split

Re: Okay... sell me on the Invader

I have an invader in a stratocaster and have played it in many different guitars.

It's warm by nature, but it's fine. It's nothing you cant EQ with your amp.
It gets a ton of output.

If you have an amp with a master volume and separate volume control, you can set it to 5 and use the master. this will give you a nice big warm clean sound.

thats what I do.

This pickup works well for leads if you equalize it properly. I cant stress this enough, people talk about it being muddy, all you have to do is equalize. Also, you cant setup ANY pickup close to the strings and expect it to NOT sound bassy.

Like I said, I have it in 1 guitar, I'm thinking about putting it in another.

It's not muddy, at least I didn't find that, but it's just TOO tight for leads IMO. The JB is so awesome for leads because it has that looseness, the Distortion not quite so much (but better for palm muted rythm as a result) and the Invader even less so because it's so tight. But that makes it the rythm pickup par excellence for the old chugga chugga stuff.

Re: Okay... sell me on the Invader

It's ultra-chunky. It would probably be great with a Spin-A-Split which would let you could dial back some of that chunk slightly and get a touch of jangle (relatively speaking to be sure) and crank it back up for a lead.

Re: Okay... sell me on the Invader

It's fat, it's bad (as in mean, not bad as in well...bad) and it really doesn't care if you end up buying it or not.

Jokes aside, it's not for everyone. Oh and it's way more versatile than people make it out to be. If you're handy with a solder, that is.

Edit: Well if you can solder a pickup you can sure as hell solder it to some switches...silly thing to say.

agreed.

if you have a channel for solos on your amp, its good.

i use it with a sort of upper mid boost, and it really gives it a good kind of quack tone.
