OLD Gibson Dirty Fingers wiring question

Hi everyone,

I've got an old Gibson Dirty Fingers that has TWO single conductor leads. (One for each coil) I know this is so that one coil can be turned off, but I have no idea how to wire this pickup, for regular series operation OR for regular series mode with a split switch in case I decide to try it out as a single coil. Any ideas? Thank you!

Wait, what? As far as I know, it's either single conductor (braided outer shield and inner hot lead) or it's 4 conductor (4 wires total, 2 for each coil).

I've got an 80's era DF (screws on both coils) and it's got the braided outer shield and inner hot lead, and a later model (screws/slugs) the same way. The 500T I used to have came with 4 wires and the ground like a Duncan.

Unless someone modded the pickup, your should have 4 conductors plus the ground. Someone may have clipped the ground short in the sleeve.

If it's 2 conductors and a shield, it's for phase. The two conductors allow for one or the other to be ground by going to the shield and the other to be hot. This allows you to have it in or out of phase with whatever other pickups there might be. I'm not surprised; there were some pretty weird 80s models that might have had an in/out of phase switch with DFs.
