old MXR Overdrive

Anybody ever mess with the old Commande MXR pedals? I haven't heard much about them. Somebody was selling a Commande Overdrive, and I thought my Series2000 DynaComp was kind of cool so I was considering giving it a shot. Anybody have any experience with these? (don't want to buy it if they suck)

Re: old MXR Overdrive

Are those the black pedals? I tried them.. but it didn't do anything memorable for me...

I used the regular MXR series... whether it was script or block...

Stuff that I owned - DynaComp, Distortion+ (block and script...I preferred my block better...), Phase 90, Phase 100, Blue Box (reissue), MicroAmp... my Graphic EQ was my favorite... it was velcroed in the back of my rack...

I loved the Flanger, chorus, and pitch shifter, but didn't own those...

The Commande series was supposed to be the nail in the coffin for MXR, but whether they really were that bad... I can't remember.. because back then... some of the crappier pieces of equipment are better than some of the crappy pieces now...

The ProCo Brat... wow.. that is a HORRIBLE pedal... there are some cool cheap-o pedals like the plastic Danelectro pedals that sound good, but some people hate them.

Yeah, they're black with green letters - the guy was selling it cheap so I thought it might be interesting to mess with but I didn't want to get it if it was going to end up as a doorstop in my basement. :)

Isn't it funny that stuff that was crappy 30 years ago is "vintage collectible" now? Maybe one day I'll be considered "highly prized vintage"....
