I am a city water utility worker(insert shovel jokes here) I told all the guys on our annual junk day to keep an eye out for old tube amps as I want them. Well a co-worker shows up to a dig we were doing and told me he had something for me. It ended up being a danelectro challenger amp that i just had serviced by a guy in my town who is a wizz at stuff like that. It will NOT do the modern type stuff that i like but MAN does it do blues-ect ect. Excellent sounding amp/funky as hell/complete with cigarette burns on top. I have also acquired an older custom kraft amp that was butchered into a head that has the sweetest sound. Not very loud as i play it wide open but can it do a perfect wind cries mary type sound with my sons mim strat. Anyone else out there come across older funky/ wierd/cool amps like these. I still like the sound of a cranked up half stack but am spending more time playing around with these old relics. It is pretty cool firing up one of these older amps for the first time!!!

I wish I could find some cool stuff like that.

Oliver amps? Anybody heard of them? Bullt by Jess Oliver who worked
for Ampeg. When he parted ways with Ampeg he started his Own co.
Cool amps, Clean on 10 and not suprisingly Ampeg like. But i think
he had a lot to do with the design of the B-15 ,SVT and V-4 ?

My brother gave me a Danelectro DM-10 from the early 60s as a gift. It even has as OEM, an 8" Jensen speaker in it.

I had it checked over with a fine tooth comb by my amp tech. Among the usual tweaks, he replaced all the tubes, filter caps, and installed a grounded power chord for safety. It's now one of the best amps I've EVER heard!

From what my amp tech told me, its a BF Princeton by any other name. He love this amp too.

Thats cool- My danelectro has a couple 6l6's and i guess (according to my amp guy) the cabinet is made out of a glorified........CARDBOARD type material.heheheh The speaker is getting a little tired so i think i will have him put a speaker out on it and plug it into a 4/12. I'll see how that sounds. Cannot seem to find out much info on it though. He said the pots were dated to around 1959-60. I did end up seeing a picture on some website but can't find it now. I am going to keep my eye out for more of these custom kraft amps. I will also have to look out for one of those olivers also. later
