You may not have noticed it before, but we've put up a fair number of our old amp manuals here. We hope you find them useful.

Re: Old Seymour Duncan Amp Manuals On Line

I don't own one, but that's very cool to see a company still supporting a discontinued product.

Re: Old Seymour Duncan Amp Manuals On Line

cool!
ive seen a few of the amps around lately, nice tones

Re: Old Seymour Duncan Amp Manuals On Line

nice! thats pretty cool of you guys to do that!

how do those old amps sound, never actually heard one....

Re: Old Seymour Duncan Amp Manuals On Line

The Convertible 2000s are really cool. The 84-50 is like a two channel Fender Deluxe. Both very nice amps.

For any bass players out there, the Bi-Amp 8000 is one of the hippest bass heads ever made.

A lot of the Seymour Duncan amp designs were way ahead of their time. If you can find them, you might score a really great sounding amp.

Re: Old Seymour Duncan Amp Manuals On Line

I think I found my answer, but I'm still confused. I picked up an 84-50 in trade this summer. The clean channel sounds ok, nothing special, and the overdrive channel just sounds fuzzy. It seems to work fine, but I'm just disappointed with the overdrive sound. What was the aim for this channel to sound like? I'm hoping my amp is actually messed up b/c the overdrive sounds like that of a $30 practice amp. Thanks!

Re: Old Seymour Duncan Amp Manuals On Line

man, convertibles are common around me! have yet to try one mind :burnout:

Re: Old Seymour Duncan Amp Manuals On Line

Still waiting for that anaswer from another thread about the convertibles.

Perhaps some new tubes would help and a bias?

Re: Old Seymour Duncan Amp Manuals On Line

As for the "fuzzy" sound, defintely something wrong .... probably tube(s). I just got a 2x10 version of this amp in near mint condition with original tubes, and it's KILLER!! Excellent cleans, excellent crunch!! If you push the front end hard with pedals, you could probably get a singing Boogie tone without any problem.

PS - If anyone has a 4-button programmable foot switch that goes to the 84-50 (Quadratone), let me know-I need one. Thanks.

I also have 100 and 60 watt Convertible Combos, as well as a 60 watt head. All amazing!!! As you can see, I really like these amps, and relative to the other stuff out now, they can be had for a song.
The Convertibles have the exchangable preamp modules, which makes them INCREDIBLY versatile. 5 modules for the 100, and 2 for the 60. The 60's are much harder to find, and some people think they sound better. I like them both. WAY AHEAD OF THEIR TIME!!
Check out the manuals on the Duncan website, and you'll get a better idea about how they work.
I owned an early Mesa Boogie I bought new from the late 70's, when these came out in the 80's. I was considering one, but they were almost as much as the Boogies, and I heard they might have some reliablility issues (probably the the slide in/out preamp modules, from what I recall). I was doing a lot of road work back then, and didn't want to take a chance. I heard one in the studio back then, and was really impressed. Now that I own some, I'd think that as long as you took care of them, there'd be no problems, but thery're probably not as hearty as some others, and you should take a little more care and maintenance when using them regularly.
My amps stay in my studio now, so that is not an issue for me anymore. These amps can probably do almost anything, especially if you stick a pedal or two in front of them. Very Cool. You should get one (or more!!).

Re: Old Seymour Duncan Amp Manuals On Line

Any schematics for the convertible 60?

I would love to use mine, but it hums an awful lot.

Re: Old Seymour Duncan Amp Manuals On Line

You can find them regularly on Ebay, but I'd wait for a deal. I'm not too fond of dealing with the Guitar Centers on Ebay.
I own a Convertible 100 & 60 combos, as well as 60 head. I also have an 84-50. They're all killers ... love 'em.
You can also find the modules on Ebay from time to time. They go anywhere from $40-$200, depending on the module type and the people bidding.
The person above can email me for a pdf or link to the 6o watt manual.
Get one of these amps if you can. They're a real value at anything under $500, although they're all old now, and you may need to have a qualified tech go thru them to get them cleaned and tuned ... wonderfull tone and versitility.

Re: Old Seymour Duncan Amp Manuals On Line

link is dead... ive just saw a duncan 19" pre amp on ebay

I assume the 8000 is the 400x400w amp. I have two of the 300x300w amps. I don't know when they were made, but I know that the 400x400 was in the 1988 Guitar World buyers' guide, so I assume prior to 1987. These amps are so full sounding, better than any of the solid state bass amps of the 80's. I was familiar with the GK-800 RB, which had a good reputation at the time, but the 300x300w is bi-amp-able, dual mono or bridged, which you really can't do with the GK, because it was designed to be specifically a bi-amp model. If you've only got one cab, the GK can only put out the 300w of the main channel.

My Seymour amps crush any amp of the time, and stack up quite favorably to current all SS amps.
