old style / new style

I've heard the Lil Screamin Demon audio sample and I wonder what is the difference between the two? What's the difference in technique (or whatever) between the old style and the new style?

the new ones are sealed and shiney with threaded metal inserts. as far as i can tell they sound the same as the old ones
