OMG my guitar fell!

Re: OMG my guitar fell!

SCHALLERS!! Though I'm sure the DMZ straps work great, with the schallers you can use ANY strap you want!! they haven't failed me yet.

Re: OMG my guitar fell!

Schaller. I know there are other good brands, but those are what I've had, used, and loved. Never had a failure.

Re: OMG my guitar fell!

Schaller here too. But don't stress out so much about your guitar falling, it can take alot more.

Not in my experience (2 yr old ESP before it was sold, and 1 year each on my two current guitars).

I mean, yeah, springs do fail over time, but I haven't seen it yet.

Re: OMG my guitar fell!

What's so special about Schallers?

I use Dunlops on all my guitars & have no issues at all.

Re: OMG my guitar fell!

Hey Terry!

I've used the Dunlop system and also had no problems with it.

The thing I liked about it were the big strap buttons - the guitar could be played using a strap with no straplock system installed. With the Schaller buttons you gotta have the other part or you'll drop the guitar!

The things I didn't like with Dunlops were ...

The strap seems to me to be held out a long way from the body of the guitar - mainly aesthetic, but I would guess this also puts more strain on the button screw? Big arse Les Pauls here...

There seems to be a single point of failure in the mechanism - the push button / bearing assembly. With the Schaller system, if the spring / plunger part fails, the horseshoe cups should still support the guitar.

As I say, I never had a problem with the Dunlop system, I just decided I like the Schallers better.

Re: OMG my guitar fell!

+1 for Schaller. Tighten them with a wrench and you won't have to worry about them loosening for awhile. Even if you don't do that, just check 'em every time you pick the guitar up and tighten them with your fingers, shuld be good enough to get you by.

Wow, I've been using mine the other way around so that it's easy to pop the strap on and off! And to think that mine never failed this whole time!

I'll go fix that :D

As for the Schaller, they remind me of stuff we use on military aircraft that needs a positive engagement / disengagement. We use stuff a lot like the top object in this picture. However, in this case, it's quick connect, not disconnect, because with guitar straps we want them to stay on, not be easy to take off :D

Re: OMG my guitar fell!

I've had the Dunlops fail on me.

I assume that due to the wieght of my Les Paul, caused some portion of the ball bearings in the strap to no longer retract when pressing on the button. This was very frustrating as it prevented my from fitting my LP in its case properly. The good news was that the strap didn't come off for nothing. It was defeinetly stuck on there. The bad news was, the only way I could get it off was by cutting it with a dremel tool. The straplock was only a few months old. It was not abused in any way.

Ever since then I've used Schallers and haven't had a single problem.
