OMG.....What A Deal!!!! Gibson Les Paul Baritone

Too bad we all missed out. They must've sold out of them as soon as they listed it as the "stupid deal of the day". I don't know what I'd have done with it, but I'm sure I could've figured out how to use it somehow in my music. I can't believe they were selling them for $700 less than they usually go for on there.

I'd go for one. Despite all the awful silver, it's a nice guitar. Switch it up with some gold hardware, take off the pickguard and we're set.

You crack me up.

By the way, you'd better put some time on that Taylor acoustic you're getting in a couple days. Sometimes, I regret NOT buying it, and telling you about it.
You're gonna be stoked when that bad boy shows up.

I got it this afternoon and played it for about 3 solid hours.;) I just couldn't put the thing down man.

That's one of those deals where you almost have to buy it!

Dangit...the only LP worth buying...at least that was the fugly colour, the blue mist is the best.

Re: OMG.....What A Deal!!!! Gibson Les Paul Baritone

There's an Epiphone baritone les paul which does the trick just fine.

I don't understand baritone guitars, to be honest. If you want to play in a lower range and yet maintain clarity, why not just use heavier strings?

It's not going to play as well, nor have a nice clear, resonant, piano-like sound, nor probably sustain nor intonate as well as a true baritone scale length guitar. I built one, and it kills! It'll blow away any standard sized guitar that's been downtuned with a bunch of huge fat strings flopping around!

Heavier strings only accomplish so much.

I can tell you from playing 5-string basses that an extended scale can make a difference. Even between my 34" G&L L-1505 and the 35" Lakland, the difference on that low B is almost an entire world. It just feels so much more responsive than the G&L. When i sit down and play a Fender with their standard scale they just feel like mud, tacked on almost as an after-thought.

Well yeah, they're Fenders.

Well yeah, they're Fenders.

...and they were also ESP's and Yamaha's and several other companies that had the shorter scale.

Don't make it about the company, it's something that's bigger than just that.

Re: OMG.....What A Deal!!!! Gibson Les Paul Baritone

That Gibson baritone was originally $1300, and they had just dropped the price down to about what I paid for my Epiphone baritone. One of the big strikes against Epiphones, is that frequently, the body is made up of chunks of wood glued together. But my Epiphone appears to be made of one solid slab of mahogany. And the aesthetics of mine are a lot cooler.

For that reason I want to try one of the 35.25" Carvin 6-strings.
