ok so i have a Silvertone "Shredder"... in an S-S-S setup... Lol Shredder. Anyway the pickups are stock, and call me crazy but it has the best neck and middle pickups i have ever heard, they are fat and clear and quacky, kinda like if a P-90 and a Strat had kids. Anyway, i have been on a quest for the last...i would say 5 years, to get the same tone out of a neck and middle pickups, in my H-S-H. Well the neck pickup is a Bluesbucker and it taps really well, but it is quite a bit brighter without as much bass response as the Silvertones neck pickup. They are both ceramic but the Silvertone just sounds so much more tonaly alive... odd for ceramics. So what type of alnico would you suggest i use for the bluesbucker, mind you i have found a company who will be able to provide the correct size magnets. I was thinking A5 but im not sure, All i know is this is how i would like to adjust the EQ of the pickup. More bass, Less mids, Slightly less treble, but the boosted bass might help that. Also the middle pickup in my H-S-H is an Area '61, i hate it everything is wrong with it, sounds compressed like a crappy tele neck pickup, no bass, tooooooooo bright, all around just sounds like a cheap pickup. I contacted Dimarzio and they suggested the Virtual Vintage Blues to warm up the middle position, and it looks good to me, he said if it didnt work out go for the Virtual Vintage Heavy Blues 2, anyone have experience with these. BTW the H-S-H has 250k Pots, Alder body, Rosewood on Maple. The Silvertone is some sort of wood... almost looks like pine lol. All i know is the guitar sounds good and is really resonate.
