? on Joe Walsh strat pickups on Crossroads CD (Funk 49)

I need to know what type of pickups Joe Walsh has in his green strat on the Crossroads festival CD.

The intro part in Funk #49 just blew me away, I can't get that tone out of my head and I have to find out what those pickups are!

A few people have said they are probably Lace Sensors, but I know there are several different types and I know this is the place to go for questions like this!

Thanks.

Great question, I was also wanting to know the same thing. EMG's maybe? Just a wild guess.

I do not know since I do not have the CD.

But I wanted to bring up a point of historical significance. The original James Gang version was recorded using a stock Telecaster with low action. Joe Walsh, in his opinion, thought that the best Telecaster sound required that the strings rattle a bit on the frets.

I now return you to the question normally scheduled at this time.

I might be wrong, but I think he's got a MJ wound Firebird pickup in that red strat.

Not the one he uses for that song. Its a light blue one, with 3 single coils.

Though he plays that red one elsewhere on the DVD.. and it gives him awesometastic tone.

I mostly think it is Joe Walsh.

He did sound awesome on that though didn't he?

I saw the.. er.. poles. Whereas Lace Sensors have that cover that just looks like a white surface.

The "great strat sounds" generally don't come from noiseless.

I know he uses Jason Lollar pups, but I don't know if those are the one's in the video. Those are definitely not noiseless, and I have heard many great things about them.

The red strat stlye guitar that he plays on another song (he helped out James Taylor with some smokin hot licks on Stemaroller blues) does indeed have a firebird pickup, and it also sounds amazing, I thnk it is an SD.

The pups in the greenish strat do not have visible polepieces, if that helps.

And yes, Joe's playing doesn't hurt, either!

What are the tonal characteristics that you like about the sound? I'm sure there is a pickup to recommend for it, even if it doesn't end up being the same exact one.
