On on on switch as capacitor selector help

I need help with finding a wiring diagram to have a on on on switch to be used as a capacitor selector with three different capacitor values.

Re: On on on switch as capacitor selector help

Ya know what usually works better? One capacitor, one position bypasses the cap, one position goes 100% through the cap, and one goes halfway. If you need multiple capacitors, is there a reason you don't want a bypass position?

Note also that an on-on-on switch will give you three values with only two caps. The middle position places both caps in parallel, which adds them. So, using a .01uf and a .022 would give you .01, .032, and .022 uf's, in that order. Or, .022 and .033 would give you .022, .055, and .033. The sky's the limit. Well, one plus the other is the limit. :)

Can you point me to a schematic of this?

I'll make you one tomorrow. After my coffee. ;)

I do this on one of my Esquires, using a Gibson toggle switch that I added to my control plate. Lets me tweak the sound of the "Eldred" switch position a bit. I use .01 and .022 uF caps, IIRC. .033 uF is usually the factory Eldred wiring value used by Fender on their Esquires, so my switch lets me select two slightly more trebly cocked wah tones. Sounds like a perhaps overly subtle feature, but it's actually quite useful, especially when moving from one amp to another.

If you have room, you could also use a Fender type three-way blade switch. Or a five-way, with the same three caps giving you five values.
I guess that' be overkill. Just brainstorming.

That would be awesome but I’m modding a single surface mount humbucker Gretsch that looks like an LP Jr and the cavity is a little small.

I've been happy with simple off-on switch and two caps. The very top end gets easily painfully bright without some cut-off.

Re: On on on switch as capacitor selector help

I had a very simliar question that I pm'd Clint55 about and mine was concerning a single humbucker and an On/On/On mini toggle with a simluated 500k/1meg/wide open. No pots, just straight to the jack. However, upon further thinking, I think id like to add a parachute so I can shut this bad boy down at the end of the track, so Im going to add a kill switch in there somewhere.

Good stuff to experiment with and Id like to publicly thank Clint for his help because he is one of many good and knowledgable people on here who will never steer you wrong. In fact I thought of him right away when I saw this and was surprised he didnt respond, however seems like you got the help you needed so thats all that matters.

+1 to you for thinking outside the norm.

Basically trying to trick out a single pickup guitar with a spin a split, capacitor selector switch and passive overdrive switch. Probably not going to mess with a tone pot and just use the toggle with lower value caps for darker tones. Currently it has an on on and single cap wired as the jazz switch mod you can find on this site.
